Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Recommendation for ammo?

I don't have much ammo left at home and I want to stock up to a reasonable amount.  I am looking for two kinds of ammo, something to plink with and practice with and something to use as defensive/SHTF ammo.  Currently stationed in Iraq so anything I would buy would need to be from a supplier that ships (to Florida).  So anyone have any ideas on what to buy and where I might find it or some places to start looking?

My rifle has a 16" Noveske stainless steel 1:7 twist barrel.
