I bought 4200 rounds of .22LR at Cabelas yesterday.  It's Remington "Golden Bullet" (brass plated hollow points) value packs, 525 rounds for $19.99, rated at 1280 FPS.

Wal-Mart.

I've got a couple ten thousand rounds of the Federal Value Pack stuff.

If your Walmart stocks it, Winchester 333rd LRHP for $9.95.
It doesn't stay on the shelf long.

I'd stay away from Golden Bullet, never had great luck with it.  Better than the cheap Winchester-branded that Wally World has (had?) but Federal was the best of the cheap stuff.

Agreed. I've had very little luck with Remmy Golden Bullet value packs. I've had more bad primers in one box of Remmy than I've had in 10 of Federal 550 packs.

Fixed.

I've had the misfortune of shooting through a whole brick of Golden Bullets (or at least trying to). I had close to 50 duds in a 550 round pack.

I've shot thousands and thousands and thousands of rounds of Federal Value pack .22 and experienced maybe 10-15 duds.

Interesting, I haven't had any problems with it.  I've had more duds in my recent CCI boxes than the Remington.  I'll keep my eye on it, thanks for the heads up!

I know what 80 boxes of .22lr look like, not a big deal there.  That being said I don't think I've ever seen the 550rd boxes of of .22lr, rem or fed for 9 bucks a box let alone only a few months ago.

Around Y2K they were about $8.97 a box (I remember having my parents buy me some for the 10/22 I got around that time). Was that price for the early part of this decade. Then it jumped up to $9.88 (around 2006- but that's just a guess). Then ammo prices went crazy and it climbed up and up from there. I stocked up when it was still $11.98 a box (probably only about 20K though). Now it's up to something like $13.47 a box (been that way since last summer).
40000 thousand rounds of .22 isn't that much...even at todays prices that's still under $1000. 3000 rounds of 5.56 will cost you more than that.

As a data-point, I bought 10K of Winchester Dynapoint from Able Ammo for $398.03/shipped back in June 2008.

They were $9.95 a 550 rnd box just several months ago. Then they jumped to $11.95, then $13.95. I buy them by the 10 box case and get 10% off at that, bought all mine when they was $9.95 each. Dont even know how much i have, close to 100K

Just because someone wont show you a pic, or show you a 5 month old receipt, doesnt justify calling BS. Get over it, you missed out and now have to pay $19 for the same box or whatever it is they charge now...when they have it.

walmart here in vegas has a ton on the shelf. I bought 8 bxs of target today.

Plus, at walmart i get another 10% off because my friend wife works there.  All I do is swipe his badge and 10% off.

Oh trust me I didn't miss out I'm just curious about the 9.00 dollars 4-5 months ago because the Walmarts around here have been at 13.95 for a box for at least 4-5 months now if not longer.

+1  Walmart has the best price in .22lr ammo.  Federal Bulk Packs 550 rounds for $13.47.  But since the election, even walmart can't keep them in stock.

The only other option is sometimes Cabelas has Federal Bulk Packs 525 rounds on sale for under $15, They usually have hundreds upon hundreds of boxes.

Walmart did have the Federal 550rd Boxes for $8.97.  I don't remember how long ago it was, but it definitly wasn't a few months ago.  Maybe a year to 1.5 years ago.  I should have bought more then!!

My Wal Mart had the 550 packs of Fed and for 9.97 and the Rem for 8.97 in Spring of 08. I remember it, too bad I was spending all my money on WWB .45ACP they had on sale.

I am experiencing a 10% failure rate on the Remington Brass plated HP's. Some of them will fire on a reinsert in the chamber and a second strike. Annoying and unacceptable. As soon as I shoot those up - no more Remingtons cheapies for me.

I found the same thing with my 10-22. Just about every other brand worked fine but that value pack remington stunk. About 1 out of every 10 shots dud. I found the other cheap stuff (fed, win) worked better.
