I have a RRA 1:9 16" barrel (R4/M4) Chrome-lined.

What I would like to know is who has fired 75gr OTM rounds through this exact type of barrel (and even other RRA 1:9 Chrome lined barrels) and what was their results. Any key-holing and such and out to what distances were you able to shoot?

thanks

I shoot 75gr Hornadays and 77gr Sierra's almost exsclusivly through my RRA 1/9" M4 bbl, no problems out to 400yrds, at least nothing that you can blame the bullet or barrel on...

Handlaoded 75 grain Hornady OTM's.  No problems through a 20" chrome lined barrel at 100yds, sub moa groups if I do my part.

Ok...good. Thanks

Next question. BH Blue Box 75 gr OTM go for $32 per 50 and the Red box for about $39 per 50.

In comparison, Hornady (Not 5.56 T2) go for $20 per 20.

Why the huge gap in price? If they both use the same bullet and loaded essentially the same, why buy TAP at all over BH??

Also, it appears (by a few reports) that BH Blus box is loaded hotter than Red box. Is this accurate?

As I understand it, BlackHills blue box use once fired cases, and red box use newly manufactured cases.  Both shoot pretty damn well.  I handload mostly, but have allways had good luck with both Blackhills and Hornaday.  Why the price difference?, nickel plated cases on the TAP, maybe.  Try them all and see which ones shoot best in your rifle, and then decide.

Is it true then that the 75gr OTM BH (Red or Blue box), Hornady 5.56 TAP (T2) or FPD or .223 red Boxare all more effective than M855 and M193 at any distance on soft targets?

Maybe, M855, (greentip), was intended to punch through Soviet body armoer and helmets out to something like 300 meters.  Some folks say it works fine and others say different.  I've never shot anyone, and I hope to keep it that way, so I can't say.
I've used the 75gr on everything up to deer, (where legal), and it works great.  The 55gr M193 is probably a good choice where less penetration through interior walls is important.
