I have found a local store that has a rather large stockpile of Sellier & Bellot .223 ammo available.  Before I jump in and grab a few hundred rounds, I wanted to know if anyone has had any bad experiences with this stuff?

yes, I have had bad experiences. I went out with a couple of boxes and had popped primers, never touched it again.

I never had any drastic issues, but I didn't like the stuff...not very accurate in my Bushmaster.

Mine cycled okay and no primer problems.

I upgraded my ammo stash with other stuff.

I, like many .223 shooters, am just looking for that "magic bullet" that combines decent performance with prices that are down to earth.  I usually shoot the Remington UMC stuff from W*Mart, when I can find it.  I was just hoping the S&B would be a reasonable alternative.

I have three AR shooters in the house and we can go through a lot of rounds in just one trip to the range!

ropwoo,

my action would be--buy 3-5 boxes,
run out to range and fire away.

if half-decent results, run back and  buy it up.

if lousy results, pass.

No issues, but it wasn't accurate in my DPMS or Colt.  Fiocchi, Prvi and M855 all shoot better in my carbines.

I've only shot a small amount of it, maybe 60 rounds, but it seemed to work fine & no more or less accurate than wolf.

I don't think there is any good ammo going cheap anywhere.

Back in the old days, the best buy was the Norinco yellow box 55gr.  That stuff was very good ammo and cheap as hell (like 3.50-4.00/box)...good old days.

Can't beat "slave labor" Chinese communist ammo!

When I went to the shop to grab a few boxes, they were all out. Where have you found it in WA?

S&B is a standard NATO ammo maker in the Cech Republic.  It is extremly good ammo and meets all NATO specs.  I have fired thousands of rounds in every thing from 6.5X55 through M-1 Carbine.  I fact I have 10 boxes of each stashed right now.  I'd get all of the S&B I could if I were you.  If you fire it next to issue M193 you won't see one bit of difference, not on the target, not on the Chrono.
Zhukov keeps a really accurate and well done history of all ammo, read his tacked posts on ammo and it will be enlightning.

I've had good luck with S&B.  I bought a couple cases of the 55gn .223 when it was still $179/1000, but that's all gone now...
It was fairly accurate, and I never had any issues out of it, in either of my carbines.

I can't say I have ever had a problem with it.  1500+ rounds so far.

I just bought another 1k rounds. I like it, no problems. I have noticed that it is marked M193 on the box.

Never had any problems with it in a 1000 rd case.  I would buy it again if I could.

Gentlemen, please post all of your comments into the S&B ammo review so that they are not lost.

I've gone thru S&B M193 & SS109.....feed & functions fine in my Colts and LMT, not as hot or accurate as LC or IMI respectively....but good for plinking tin cans
