I did look at the FAQ and ammo reviews before I posted. I'm probably just retarded but I didn't see anything about the Winchester Q3131R3 (aka M855) round.

There's no specific entry about Winchester M855, because it's extremely rare. You can figure that it'll be the same as "Lake City M855" since it's true M855 that has to meet the military's specification. Edited to add: Q3131R3 is not a valid Winchester designation. There's "RA556M855", which is M855 sold to military/law enforcement. Then there's Q3131A (M193 made in Israel) , Q3131 (domestic M193), and USA223R3 (plain ol' 62gr Winchester White Box ammo, non-penetrator projectile) |

You just answered 3 of my next questions! Well, I found 900 rounds of Winchester M855 for $250. It sounds like they're the equivalent of Federal's "PD" marked ammo. Does that price sound reasonable? Thanks! |

I've fired both Winchester's M855 and Lake City's M855 in my Colt. Both fed flawlessly, achieved tight groupings, and felt like full-power military loads. Of course, without a chrono, and just shooting at paper, I have no way of quantifying this.
Winchester M855 isn't cheap, making it a poor choice for plinking ammo IMHO, but good to keep stashed away for a rainy day. |

Well, I'm talking a class that will require 1800 rounds of 5.56 ammo. I'm having a hard time trying to find plinking ammo to use for that class. It seems like if I stray from the major manufacturers, I may run into problems. And that's not something I can afford in the middle of nowhere during a 5 day class. But I agree, $250/900 rounds is pretty expensive. Is there another readily available alternative that I can use for that class? It's one thing if the class is local cuz I can just run home and grab my good stash in case whatever cheap stuff I get is causing problems, but the class is about 4 hours away. Plus I hate to dig into my good stuff!
Maybe I can get away with Radway or Adcom for the class? |

Go buy yourself some M193 Guat from AIM. You won't have any problems with it and it is quite a bit cheaper then new stuff. It'll be 55 grain FMJ and will be loaded to NATO spec.

I bought some WIN M855 back in 2000
the stuff I had was REAL HOT compared to LCM855 & IMI M855 that I have Pulled a round powder 27.1grs |

$4 per 20 is reasonable for 01/02 manf. 5.56 right now. SADLY. Not like there is tons of 55 grain surp out there right now. If SA 5.56 came back on the market would you pay $4 per 20? |

The Winchester 3269 green tip measured 2971 fps. They both shot tight groups. The Winchester 223R3 62 gr. did 2883 fps and was a little less tight on the group. |

alou: I concur with someone else who suggested Guatemalan M193. Probably cheaper than M855, and if you're looking for reliability, you ought to be OK. There's other brass-cased ammo that would fit the bill too.

I purchased 900 rds of it and I am pleased. The cases were all clean, in strippers, and in cardboard boxes. 840 fit well in my ammo can inside bandoleers. That gives me 2 mags to play with. I'll take it.

For your class why not black hills blue box, Ultramax, or other reputable reman.. If ultramax be sure it has silver primers, the gold primer stuff should be long gone, but the gold primers of several years ago had some bad ones. Alot of people still bad mouth Ultramax becasue of those.
As for the Win 855 I bought 3 cases and really like what I have fired of it. |

Yes, that's the Winchester M855. I've seen it listed several places as "Q3269", but have not personally seen that designation on any box, nor in any Winchester catalog. The Winchester M855 I ordered a little while back came in different style boxes, on stripper clips. ETA: I think the "Q3269" designation is being used on the Winchester M855 that is boxed, but not on strippers. Has anybody ordered any of this from Ammunition To Go? Are they using that number on the box? |

seems now that SS109/M855 can be had about the same price as M193 or cheaper All military ammo is for plinking in the OLD DAYS  The WIN M855 that I bought in 2001 was pretty hot compared to IMI/LC M855 |

If you go to the EE section, then to the ammuntion thread, you'll find exactly what you are looking for from Bigbore (ADCO). This is the real deal, packed on strippers and cardboard sleeves M855 greentip manufactured by WCC (Winchester). He's got pics posted. It's by no means cheap, but if you want the real deal, Bigbore's got it.
I've purchased 10k of this, shot about 1k. I bought when it was a little cheaper, but not by much. It's +1 ammo. You can buy it a little cheaper if you send him a money order, or buy on his website by credit card for a bit more. Read his post.. BUT, I agree with fxntime, I've had NO issues with the M193 Guat and it was a lot cheaper, I don't know about AIM's prices now, I bought enough to last me a very long time. Good luck!

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=233126 It looks excellent. I put 840 in bandoleers in an ammo can for SHTF. I figure the ammo won't get any cheaper. Now I also have a mag for testing, a mag for loading, and 840 rounds for SHTF. For the peace of mind, I will pay extra. |

I bought 6 cases of it when it was $230 per 900 to my door. It's very hot and accurate. Nice and clean on strippers. Saves me a lot of time. Thinking of buying more. How come every time I answer a post I buy more of the product that's discussed

I bought two cases about a year ago. Can't remember where or what it cost. It's marked 04, WCC, and the NATO stamp, on the head. It came in cardboard sleeves and on strippers. Looks real good. Haven't shot any of it though, still trying to get through the Radway.
