Do we not have a headstamp cross reference guide anywhere on here? I looked but can't seem to find one.

got a cartridge marked:

TW
68

it's a .223 that i picked up with some other casings on the range, and i'm curious.

That casing came from Twin Cities Arsenal 1968

Propper Name is Twin Cities Army Arsenal Plant, Minneapolis, Minnesota

Here is a link you can save  cartridgecollectors.org/headstampcodes.htm

Twin Cities (Minnesota), made in 1968

I don't have access to any of my reference links here at work, but I'm sure someone will come along that does.

I gotta agree there should be at least a listing of US headstamps tacked on this forum.

RA = Remington Arms
WCC = Winchester Cartridge Company
LC = Lake City Army Ammunition Plant
TW = Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant
TZZ = IMI loading for US contracts (I don't know if I ever knew what it stood for)

There are others that are less common today but were very common in the past, such as Dominion (a loading plant in Ontario,Canada that produced tons of M2 Ball) and ECC (Evanston Army Ammuntion Plant, IIRC, which produced a lot of steel cased ammo; I have most of a box of empty ECC steel .45ACP cases in my collection).

Wow! 1968? someone was holding on to that one for a while. I picked it up with a pile of Lake City brass that someone neglected to clean up at the range.

Peters I think.

I thought WCC was Western Cartridridge Co.

As far as I know, all .223 / 5.56 IMI ammo has one of two:
- NATO stamp with year of manufacturing (for NATO / Israel Military contracts);
-or-
- TZZ stamp with year of manufacturing (for everybody else);

No other stamps as I aware of (I had visited IMI Small Arms Ammunition plant at least 6 times).

Yes, it's Peters.

Here's some that I also would like to add:

1.  RPA - Republic of the Philippines Army
2.  SB - Squires Bingham (Avoid these!  Primers fall off the case and might lodge into the gas tube).
3.  BMP - Bataan Munitions Plant.  Replaced RPA.  Manufactured by Government Arsenal, Republic of the Philippines, adhering to strict US 5.56mm standards.
4.  PS - Poong San. Made in Korea
5.  GE/GF - European Ammo

IIRC, I think I used to buy Winchester-Western .22 ammo as a kid, but wouldn't WWC still be Winchester Cartridge Co. ?

Not sure.  I'd bet good money that someone here knows the correct answer, though!
