[ARCHIVED THREAD] - American A-Merc Ammunition

My local gunshop has American A-Merc Ammunition for $80.00 per 500. (10 boxes of 50) Each box is labled .223 55gr C3. Each case is brass...bullet is FMJ with a somewhat blunt tip. Has anyone used this ammo? Any opinions on this ammo for plinking? I currently use XM193PD at $195 per 1000 and could save some $ if this stuff is any good.

AMERC is the only headstamp is specifically look for when it comes time to cull out brass. As the previous posts have said, it's THAT bad.

Yute, PT Barnum once wrote that there is a sucker born every minute. When it comes to AMERC, he wasn't kidding. I tried that stuff and was absolutely dumbfounded by the lack of quality control, appearance and performance. You'll never see me buying another round. Heck, I wouldn't even accept it as a gift!

What .gov contract?

I have just about gone through a case of Amerc 9mm 115 gr C3 in recent months.
No squibs, no misfires, no FTF's or FTE's in CZ 75B or Jericho 941 FB. The powder charges seem to be pretty consistant.

I have no experience with any other chamberings.

ETA: A quick web search yielded Amerc's site. They list themselves as partenered with IMI's
ammunition division. They do not go into the specifics of that relationship.

If the brass is THAT out of spec, what makes you think their attention to detail will be paid to other areas?

I gave up on reloading years ago. I never could get my RCBS Rock-chucker to chuck properly sized .45 ACP rocks to chuck at paper, chuck.

So I reckon reloading without reloading equipment might get a tad tetchy.
