It would be a good idea to hit the Hornady website for some info... Higher ballistic coefficient Promotes rapid and immediate expansion and fragmentaion Looks COOL

I went to their site but I couldn't find anything about the red tip. They mention the ballistics and everything but didn't say anything about the tip itself. Thanks for the info.

The 55gr TAP is like a ballistic tip varmint round, that's why the red tip is there.

The red-tip is polymer and gives the bullet added feeding reliability and a better BC in flight.
It also aids in expansion and is a good round for varmints, (and we ain't talking the 2 legged varmints here, for with the exception of the Hornady 75grn match HPBT TAP, all of the lower weight polymer tipped TAP rounds fail to make the 12" min. penetration test as a good self-defense round should) Most of this is covered above in the TACKED threads.
