We all know that if the SHTF, our ARs will be our weapons of choice. We will need their high capacity and long range accuracy to fight off zombies. Sufficient quantity is measured in cases, not rounds.

But how much non-AR ammo do people keep? I'm talking about ammo for handguns, shotguns or non-AR rifles.

Just curious what you guys do. Thanks in advance...

Well, since you asked, looks like I need to stock up.  I do have 6500 rounds of 5.56 tho...  I have a single-shot 20 guage, a Mossberg 12 ga pump, and a SKS (never fired).  Here is all I have for those, and one of the 12 ga birdshot boxes is half full:

I figure the best way is to have incremental goals, a bit at a time.  In fact tonight I am going to do an inventory.

My current goals are:

9mm 1k rounds  on hand ?
.357  1k rounds  on hand?
12ga  1k rounds  on hand?
7.62x39 480 rounds on hand, goal is 2k
5.56 M193, 1500 rounds on hand, goal is 3k
5.56 range ammo on hand?  would like to have 3k
.308 about 40 on hand, very bad, want at least 1k

Make a goal, work to reaching it, then set another.

SHTF?  What's gonna happen and how am I gonna tote all that ammo in a Bug-Out situation?

Pistol ammo:  1700 - 9mm
                     500 - 45acp
                     500 - .22lr

Shotgun:  50 - 12g
                20 - 20g

I buy more ammo when I head to a class, but I don't stockpile.  As I don't shoot or carry my 1911's any more, I don't buy ammo for them.  Why waste the money when I'm working the 9mm pistols more?  And, the .22 ammo reallly doesn't count because it's sooooo dang cheap in bulk.

My goal for this year is to have 5000 rounds of defensive ammo on hand.  That's .223 and 9mm or .45acp.  I have to get re-employed, but at least I have a goal to shoot for.

308       2K+ in battle packs
40Cal    1.5k
38Cal    2K+

12 gauge not enough
lot of 22's

Anyone know where to get a good deal on a quantity of quality buckshot?

A good general rule is to store 87 rounds of NON - AR ammo at all times, Jethro.

I got about a case and a half of Wolf .30 Carbine for my M1 Carbine stashed so far. I read that .30 Cal Carbine is a more effective round for most types of walking dead.

same amount as 556....NOT ENOUGH!

I shoot just as much of the "other" rounds as I do 556 so I have just as hard a time keeping it in sotck.

Rundown:
2.5k 308
1k 9mm  (I have a 9mm AR)
1.5k 5.45x39
600rds 30-06
1.5k 30 carbine
2k 556

30rds 7.62x39

Could be as simple as Executive order banning the sale of ammo, and it's importation. That would qualify as SHTF to me.

You're so naive.

Do you think Don Knotts' recent death was of natural causes?! The same Don Knotts who played Barney Fife on The Andy Griffith show? The same Barney Fife who had been known to deputize ordinary citizens to keep public order in times of crisis.

Yes, *they* are organizing.... and beginning to act.... and they are starting with our leaders, our role models.

Yep, I ain't bugging out.  I'm holding tight.

I'm trying to store up enought to last the through the next election.

TEOTWAWKI ammo

9mm - 9,000 rds (various, mostly FMJ with  1K of quality JHP)
12ga - 1,000 (750 00 Buck and 250 Slug)
40S&W - 3500  (mostly 180gr Mag Tech FMJ, only 500 Hydra Shok)
308 - 6500 (mostly Aussi and British RG, some Argi)
500 S&W - 120 (Mag Tech 275gr Copper Hollow Points) I've got a NEF Handi Rifle that just loves them!
22LR - 7500+ (5000 Mini Mags and 2500 Federal Target, and a bunch more Remington Bulk Packs)

I have a few more years to finsih the stocking up.  The 308 is on the top of the list with the 12ga right behind, then 9mm.

Take a look at Falarak's shelves. Does anyone see any SAG there? Suspicious. I'm thinking empty cans.

Dont make me open them, and take new pics.  Besides that is just ONE of the ammo closets.    I was surprised how sturdy they are.  Rock solid - but then, they arent that wide either.
