Is this ammo made for the the 1/7 twist?

Im thinking its a long bullet?

I'd wager it was made for use in a 1/9 twist.

If it was made for a 1/9" bbl, wouldn't shooting it out of a 1/7" bbl make it fragment even more reliably due to the faster turn rate?

I have a 1/7 16" M4gery that I would love to stoke with some frangible ammo for in-house use. Right now, I have her loaded with 40g JHP rated at 3600fps. I'm hoping the light weight and high velocity will cause them to disintegrate in interior walls and the like.

It's a really long bullet, Jethro. Someone posted a pic recently.
I've shot a bit of it thru my 1/9s.

What do you need to know?

Pictures are better.

I find it is easier to explain the penetration issue with pictures, rather than with the ammo oracle.
some people find it boring.

I didnt see the size bullet!

I know that a 1/9 can handle a 50gr bullet ! as could a 1/7
I thought I rember someone had key hole problems?

You will not keyhole a 50gr bullet out of 1:7.

However the only practical use for frangibles are training in shoot-houses.

You will not keyhole a 50gr bullet out of 1:7.

Way too many of us shoot 55gr out of 1:7 twist barrels for such a statement to be even remotely representative.

If you're keyholing rounds your barrel has a serious problem with it.

Nope I am just telling you I shot some 55 gr Ammo and it keyholed at 100 yards. My weapon shoots fine with 62 gr ammo. The ammo happened to be wolf but I don't think that mattered. THe barrel erosion gage reads almost 3 witch is still very good. I have not shot 55 gr since.

A 1/9 can handle a conventional 50 grain bullet, but the frangible is about as long as an ORANGE tip tracer. Stabilization would probably be hit and miss with the 1/9 twist.

The Federal reduced lead frangible bullet (40gr) loads I've shot keyhole in about 80% of the ARs I've tried them in. Don't think it's the barrels since all of the guns shoot fine with normal loads.

Most likely the bullets. The frangible material must be much lighter than a lead core. I was shocked to see how long the 50gr frangible projectile was.

It wouldn't hurt anything. You'd just get keyholes at some point if it didn't stabilize.

I shoot the frangibles on my gongs close in so I have no idea if I'm getting stabilization issues. (all my barrels are 1/9)
