Just got back from the range and thought I would report on my experience with Hornady 223 REM 75 gr TAP FPD (#80268). I was really curious to see if my barrel would handle a 75 gr. bullet being that it is 16” with a 1:9 twist.
First of all, I am no marksman. I just got my AR about 2 months ago and it is my first experience shooting a rifle. (Probably fired 500 rounds total since I got it). I’m sure results would be better from someone else.
At 100 yards with my Bushnell red dot, the dot was about 6” wide. It’s really only good for 50 yards and under with my eyes. I really need a good 3-9X scope.
As you will see in the pictures at bottom of page, there were no keyholes. No tumbling at all. I must say that I was extremely happy with this. Who knows what it would do beyond 100, but it's good up to 100.
Rifle specs:
DPMS Lower, CMT Upper, Wilson Arms 16” 5.56 barrel with 1:9 twist (not chrome-lined), and Bushnell Trophy 1X30 Red dot. Everything was bought from Del-ton Except Red Dot, riser, and rings.
