Forgive me if this has been covered, but my seraches didn't turn anything up...

Approx. how many rounds of M855 will a standard .30 ammo can hold (packed loose)?

Thanks,

That just depends on how loose they are packed.  I'm sure that you could fit a few more in then the next guy if the lid was pressed down hard.

Why not fill one up and see?  I would but I really don;t feel like counting all though rounds out.

At least 500 if done right.

About 500 +-.   A 50 can holds 1k easily with a little room to spare.

I just dumped 500rds in my 30cal ammo can, and there are still space to fit what looks like another 100rds more, but I will be happy with 500.

For the .50 cal ammo can I fitted 1200rds in there. As those are Wolf, expect them to be gone in a few range sessions.

From my local ammo vendor I get 223 from HSM packed 500 in the 30 cal cans and 1000 in the 50 cal cans.

my .50cal can holds 1000 with a little less than half the can still available.

I keep several .30 round ammo cans loaded with Q3131 and a few loaded with AE and Winchester .223 55grn FMJ's. Since I am a tad "slothy" at times, I just dump the rounds into the can....since I use these as my practice ammo and its easier to reach in and grab a handful this way, it doesn't hurt anything....my defensive/SHTF ammo is packaged "smarter". I just did an audit of my AE 55grn FMJ and I was able to fit EXACTLY 796 rounds of this in one .30 caliber ammo can. If you packaged them more carefully, I bet you could come close to 1k....

Q; How many rounds of M855/M193 can you fit in a .30 caliber ammo can?

A; 796.

I get 540 rounds on stripper clips into a .30 cal can.

I put my ammo on clips then print out a sheet of paper with a description of the ammo. I cut the 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper in half so that I have two 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 sheets, each with the description printed on them.

I take three clips, stack them, and wrap them in one of the sheets and tape it. (Make sure no tape gets on the ammo.) That holds the ammo together, helps protect it, and labels it so you know what you got.

You can stack 12 of these packs edge down in the bottom of the can. That leaves room for 6 more packs along the top. It fits perfectly with a little bit of room for cardboard spacers for padding, and a bit of room on top for clip guides. You can use a couple bandoleers as padding on one side and pack their straps in the spare space too.

I’ve had ammo stored like this for 12 years and it seems to work well.

Anyway, if I can get 540 rounds on clips in a can then you should be able to get a whole lot more packed loose.

Well I dumped 700 rounds of Black Hills Blue Box 55gr into one can. It is pretty full, but they were literally dumped in.
