Original Wolf is the dirtiest ammo I have fired that is commercially loaded, my dad loaded up some 45 rounds with some surplus powder he bought 40 lbs of and it was even dirtier.

Olympic .223, It took forever to clean the Bushy.
The worst pistol ammo I've ever used was Fiocci. (yea, I know it's spelled wrong.) I was in my P99 .40cal. It spit garbage from the muzzle back past the trigger. Looked like I was carrying graphite in my hands. |

A certain run of Winchester White Box .45 ACP. Man that stuff was horrid... Took forever to get the residue out of the gun.
IIRC it came with like a 5 round sampler of Black Talon ammo. |

Wolf, for sure. Sooty, grimy, smelly CHEAP wolf! I swear I can "tell by the smell" if an AR has fired wolf, even after many cleanings... Weird.

9mm pmc....some indians 5 miles away started sending nasty smoke signals my way thinking I was cussin' at them the stuff was smoking so bad. Who knew a rapid stream of 15 puffs meant that "Dances with Wolves sucked"?

Worst ammo, not to mention dirty was some A-merc
.38 Special ammo I bought about 5 years ago when it came in clear plastic clamshell packaging.It gave off so much foul, thick smoke I thought it was loaded with some low-grade blackpowder. It left a nasty residue as well. Underpowered and the bullets keyholed  .

I guess Wolf, but I've only fired the 7.62x39 ammo. It's the red primer sealant that gets into everything that aggravates me so much.
ETA- I handload paper-punching loads for .38 Special with 158 grain SWCs and either Unique or WW231 and they are some nasty loads. My stainless steel S&W 686 comes out solid black after a few cylinders of those things. They throw off a good bit of smoke when fired also. |

Miwall 44Special LRN. Dirty and the soft lead took a lot of work to get out of the barrel. You get what you pay for. Why have a nice firearm and put crappy ammo through it?

A buddy and I once in the late 80s split a 7000rd. order of Chinese .308 FMJ...made by Norinco, I think. Steel cased with that copper wash all over everything. That shit must have had pig dung in it! It is the only thing I have ever fired that required the gas regulator in one of my FALs (an original FN) to be moved two notches in less than 250rd. It came in 500rd. packs, so I sold the other 3000rd. to a guy I know for what I had paid and still have the rest of that first 500rd. somewhere. I cleaned crap out of that rifle for a month! This stuff made today's Wolf look positively wonderful!

Some 9mm local reloads sold by my indoor range.
When I saw a pic on the History Channel not long ago about the "old girl" battlewagons resurrected from Pearl Harbor that fired support at Omaha Beach on D-Day, the belch of smoke out of those old main gun tubes reminded me of the crap that came out of my 92FS' barrel when I fired them. I swear, the smoke went all the way to the target at 25 ft, and I had to keep reminding myself it was an INOX while I was trying to clean it afterwards. |

My experience: Wolf and American Ammo. Wolf cost me one hour to clean my AR each time i shoot it (but I usually shoot more then 500rds at a time). For American Ammo, I didn't shoot it, but see other people who uses it complains the gun and their hand turn green by powder residue! Not to mentions a lot of KB on Glocks contributed by this line of ammo.
The other ammo that's quite dirty is Fiocchi as have being mentioned. The batch of 9mm I got are not just dirty, but with a lot of hang fire too Horrible experience, will never buy that crap again either.

Remington .22LR bulk. YUCK! I've shot pistol ammo made up with old Unique (reputed to be the dirtiest powder you can get in the States) that was cleaner.
GI 5.56mm and 9mm ammunition tend to be sooty but only lightly so. This .22 left sticky soot that was hard to clean out. And no, I didn't wait months to clean the weapons-both a Ruger Mark II pistol and my AR with an M261 adapter. The stuff didn't fire or feed as well as it should have, either. |

Ultramax, by far. By the second round at the range on quals, guns would start choking and throwing up. Wolf a close second, with remington 22lr (yellow bullet with beeswax on it) we used to get by the brick loose packed next. Old NOrinco corrosive smelled like Kimchi.

I remember back in '89 my buddy and I bought a skid (10k rounds) of the old yellow box Norinco .223 for $1.29 per 20 round box. (6.4 cents per round). That was the DIRTIEST ammo I ever shot, but sure was fun and cheap for blasting. Dave W. |

Are you talking about 7.62 or 5.56 Malaysian? I just shot about 200rds of 1982 MAL 7.62x51 and about 100 rounds of Argentine 7.62 out of my new DSA FAL today and the cleanup was very quick. There was almost no fouling in the barrel at all. When I shoot my M1 Garands or M14SA the same number of rounds, I get black and later blue patches from using Barnes CR10. The CR10 today only produced light gray patches and only the slightest hint of green. It could be that since it's an Stg58 and has a surplus Steyr barrel, it is probably very smooth inside the bore and acts almost like chrome lining.
