I just received 3 K of Q3131A, lot PF71, 99 HS and was surprised there was not a NATO cross on it.  Is this normal?

Where did you find the Q3131A?

KY Imports.  $216.54 per K to you door.  Its been listed on the "Ammo Price List" for awile under Q3131.  They specify Q3131A 1999 mfg.  I went through about 500 rounds in three ARs, 14 1/2, 16, & 20" on Friday.  Ammo functioned perfectly in all of them.  No failures of any kind.  All rounds GTG.

Yes.  It does not have a NATO headstamp because M193 and equivalent is not a NATO round.  Some Q3131 is coming with a NATO headstamp, but that is only because they are using the same brass they use for M855.

What about newer ammo? Specifically 04 and 05 Q3131. Even if it has a Nato stamp on it, it may not be? I'm confused...

A lot of NATO stamped brass is being used in non-NATO spec ammo.  The NATO marked brass is only a small part of what is required for NATO spec ammo.  Manufacturers often use the brass when it's available/inexpensive, primarily for lower cost ball ammo.

Old Q3131 and new Q3131 are both 5.56 spec, but neither are NATO rounds.  NATO never adopted M193 and its equivalents.  NATO has nothing to do with pressures, and all to do with whatever is an officially adopted round.  M855 (SS109 62 gr. green tip, penetrator) IS a NATO adopted round.  Winchester has just been using some M855 brass.

I just got 2K rounds of the same lot from KY imports.  Is there any reason for concern over the age of this ammo?  I looked at a few rounds under a microscope and did notice some discolored areas in the extraction groove.  It is not noticable to the naked eye, but it does appear that it could be corrosion.

Any thoughts?
