ARRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.

It is the .45 Colt. Not the .45 Long Colt. I will never understand how after 100 years people have not learned the name of this cartridge.

Well it does not bother me as much as when someone calls a magazine a 'clip' or cartridges 'bullets.'

And I was corrected just last year for using the term 'point blank' to refer to shooting at contact range when it really means 'a range where you do not need sight adjustment for bullet drop.'

I can imagine the conversation. So you say "I will take 1 box of .45 Colt"

And they respond "We only have Long Colt. We have not had the short in 92 years."

best is when they come in and ask for a box of 7mm.  I hand them a box of 7mm Mauser, a few days later sometimes they come back and ask for a box of 7mm Rem.

It says .45LC on the box.

Maybe to differentiate it from the .45 ACP?
MAybe ACP should be called Short Colt since many revolvers shoot .45 Automatic Colt Pistol.

Maybe to be more accurate, they should call .45ACP .45 Semi-Automatic Colt Pistol.

45 long colt came about from the 45 schofield Can not shot a 45 Colt in a Schofield.

it is 45 Colt, 45 Schofield, 45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol). there are more 45 out there like that useless roud 45 GAP.

and yet I hvae seen 100+ year old boxes marked long colt.... I have also seen short colt, .455 colt, and oc course the usual smith versions.

it does not matter, nomenclature coming about from period military parlance seems to be fairly common

Once upon a time, there was .45 Colt. Then the .45 Short Colt came out. Then the .45 Short died. There was never a Long Colt and the name for .45 Colt never changed one way or the other.

Yes, some ammo makers incorrectly call it .45 LC on the box. They should be embarrassed since they are professionals. It is the same as if they said "BULLETS" on their box of cartridges.
