Anyone point me to a review of Barnaul 223 performance.  Prices are cheap, just want to know if it is a worthwhile purchase.

MidwayUSA are out of stock - anyone know of a stockist?

There's no Barnaul to be had anywhere. I read with interest that you stated that prices are cheap, but then I noticed that you mentioned it being out of stock. Expect no Barnaul to be available anywhere in the forseeable future. I fondly remember the days when I bought some off of Widener's for $90/case.

Here 'ya go:

Barnaul .223, 55GR FMJ $116/1000 + shipping from Widener's.
~ 75,000 rounds available.

I don't check Wideners very often, and I'm surprised they have any at all. ANd not just that, but quantity too. Not bad. Unfortunately, the price is $30 higher than the last time I called. You're a regular ammo bloodhound, brillo.

Are there Academy Sports stores in Florida?  Barnaul packages their ammunition specially for Academy under the "Monarch" label (it's the same box otherwise, with the cowboy on it), and I've never seen those shelves completely empty.

I like their .223; it's relatively clean, pretty accurate (no test data, but it hit where I wanted it to) and it's been reliable for me.

I like their 7.62X39 stuff too, by the way.

Academy is a pretty good-sized company, so they can negotiate stuff like this.  The "everyday low price" printed on the box, a different brand name, and so on are just printing issues.  I think it's kind of cool, myself; a big Russian ammunition plant making special packages of all sorts of ammo for bourgois shooters in the heart of consumerland.  Neat, huh?
