69 grains will work out of my 1/9 DPMS barrel(who actually makes the barrel, I simply don't know).

But it doesn't work under 150 yards.

At 100 it will shoot 3" groups
At 200 it will shoot .66" groups
At 300 it will shoot .6" groups.

My barrel is a 18 inch 1.00" bull with a Levang compensator. built for urban precision work.
Needless to say I'll be working up a 62 grain load, and see where it leads me.

Worked ok in my 16" 1:9, 2" groups from a bench using a 3x scope. My carbine didn't seen any accuracy gains (at 100y & under) over the cheaper (and better terminal ballistics) of the 75gr Black Hills.

I might be missing the point, but your more accurate the further out you go? How does the bullet restabilize itself? Not a flame, just confused.

Works like a champ outta my 16" and 14.5" rifles, of course their both 1/7 twist barrels.

Your twist rate and your barrel are "un-known" quantities in this thread, the only way to know for certain as to whether your rifle will handle the 77grn. SMKs is to try them and see.

I might be missing the point, but your more accurate the further out you go? How does the bullet restabilize itself? Not a flame, just confused.

The bullet doesn't "go to sleep" untill it is over 100 yards down range.
I recently saw a TV program on Marine snipers and they showed the vapor trail of a round that demonstrated this perfectly. It corkscrewed a bit before flatening out.
