What is the average price for surplus .223 ammo at gun shows.  I've never been and was wondering the average so I don't get ripped off.  looking to buy a 1000 rounds or so.

$99 to $110 plus shipping consistently in in Shotgun News so do not pay more than $125 unless it is some special shit.

Last weekend I saw 500 rounds of Federal XM193 for $129 plus tax at a Texas gunshow. This is the highest price I have seen. BTW--no one was buying at that price.

Gun show prices = getting bent over. I have yet to see any ammo at a gun show that I couldn't get elsewhere for much cheaper.

I am not saying these people shouldn't make a profit, it's just that I believe in getting my money's worth.

When I was at the fun show a few weeks ago, they were selling xm193 in 20 rnd boxes, not loose, for $94/500.  To me that is a great price considering most places with shipping run $230/1k.  So, I would say if you can get it for less than $230 per 1k out the door you are doing good.

Those prices are a blast from the past. The only people I know of selling SURPLUS ammo is Southern Ammo. Mixed bag M193 for $109+shipping. Check Brillo's thread for prices on the most common ammo. I bought a 500 round case of Silver Bear for $60+tax today at the gunshow, which is what AIM used to charge + shipping so I think that's a fair deal. Wolf is $120/K from the same guy.

I just got a guys last case of Q3131A at the Crossroads of the West Gun Show in Salt Lake this weekend.  Paid $199 for it. Considering you just can't find this stuff, I thought it was a good deal.

Otherwise, I agree. I hardly ever see a good deal at a show. Usually the prices are at or a little above what my local stores sell at - and way above what you can regularly find on the EE or Industry boards. I mainly go just for the browsing.

I think internet sales with quick shipping has killed the "good deals" one used to find at the show.
