I went by my local gun shop today to by some "plinking" ammo for my AR.  I asked if they sold the steel cased Wolf ammo.  He said that the Wold ammo tears up the chambers on AR's because of the steel cases.

I've never heard that before, so I thought I would ask you guys.

Thanks

Lacquer on the cases of Wolf and Barnaul doesn't seem to work for me.  Others have good luck with it.

Southern Ammo may have inexpensive 5.56mm soon, that may be the best cheep stuff to get.

Personaly I have tried a 500rd case of Silver Bear from AIM Surplus and it has worked OK.  It has Zinc coated steel cases.  Others hate Silver Bear but 75% like it.

If you have a chrome lined chamber I don't think the steel cases will hurt your rifle at all.  The steel used in the cases is far softer than the steel used in your barrel.

I've shot thousands of rounds of wolf through aks and my ar and never once had a problem. And that's somewhere near 5-6 thousand through the AK and about 1500 through the AR.

I've shot alot of Wolf .45 acp without any problems. I found it to be more accurate in my guns than Winchester white box from Walmart.

Your "local gun shop" Ammunition Review Specialist is FOS.

I'd love to know exactly how many threads on these boards over the years have been devoted to the big, bad WOLF debate.......gotta number in the thousands....

.....which tells me it's either the worst shit on the planet, OR the most popular .223 ammo ever manufactured.

I love it.

Is it because the AK rifles were designed to handle steel cased bullets, and the AR specified for brass?  I'd like to know.

Until fairly recently Wolf is all I ran through my AR's.  No real problems with it at all.

If your AR cannot cycle Wolf, then there's a problem with the rifle. For my AR-15, it happened to be a leaky gas key (wasn't attached properly at factory). For future AR-15s, I plan to assemble it myself from the get-go. If you do a search, you will find MANY people with leaky/loose gas keys that were assembled by Bushmaster.

All of these "problem" AR-15s will cycle XM193/M855PD and other higher-than-SAAMI pressure cartridges. SAAMI spec cartridges SHOULD cycle fine, but I had 99% success with SAAMI stuff in my AR-15 before I "fixed" it.

It's just a lot safer to know the AR-15 will cycle Wolf (underpressured by about 10,000 psi in the chamber) because that means you can pretty much use any .223/5.56 so long as it fits your chamber.

Why not?  What could it do?

Yes, it's true. Shooting wolf ammo in your AR will make it scream like a little girl and fall into non recognizable peices in your hand.
The cases are made of ultra strong titanium / diamond alloy that will cut glass and is still sharp enough to slice this tomato!!! The gilding material on the projectile is sooo thick....

[audience]"How thick is it ?!?"[/audience]

It's soo thick that it makes an AR-15 mag a single stack!!!

[laughter]Hahahahaha[/laughter]

But seriously folks, Wolf ammo is soo bad that you have to superglue M193 to it to get someone to load it in their rifle.

I thoroughly suggest that anyone who was foolish enough to buy this cursed ammo send it to me immediately so it can be disposed of properly. Do it for the children man, they're our future!!!
