Hi folks, newbie here, sorry if this has already been discussed but I searched everwhere but couldn't find the answer to this question.

I bought a box of Winchester Q3131As from a local sporting goods store ($4.29/box).  It says made in Israel which tells me it's the IMI stuff but it doesn't have the NATO stamp on it, it just has WCC 04 stamped.  Is it still the mil spec stuff?

Also, it doesn't appear that there is any sealant on the primer.  The Ammo Oracle seems to indicate that the amm can be taken off the line for military use (destined for commercial) before or after the sealant is applied which tells me it is hit or miss.  How can we get mil spec ammo with the sealant?

Correction, there is sealant.  I just happened to look at one with a thin amount.  Still no answers regarding the NATA stamp?

Q3131A isn't a NATO standard round. Therefore it doesn't have the NATO headstamp. some did in the past IIRC but a NATO headstamp on the brass doesn't actually mean anything. Black hills uses once fired brass for their reman ammo(blue box) and since it's all once fired military brass it has the NATO cross circle on it. But it's not and never was "NATO" ammo. Hope the example helps explain it better.

M193 55 gr 5.56mm ammo was never a NATO standard. The only 5.56mm that is NATO standard are loads using the 62 gr SS109 bullet, such as M855.

Back in the 90's when Winchester ran Lake City and today with Federal operating it, you see/saw the Q3131 and XM193 55 gr stuff loaded into cases with the NATO stamp. The only reason it's there is because those cases were intended for use with M855 spec ammo. They just used those same cases for the M193 because it would be much cheaper and more convienent to do that than to try to stamp the brass seperately.

Ahh... thanks!  I guess I was getting confused between mil spec and NATO spec.  Thanks for clearing that up!

I just got some Q3131 (no "a") with a headstamp of "WCC 94".  It looks mil-spec; sealed, crimped, and discolored from annealing.  Is it mil-spec?
