I've been advised that I can purchase Federal XM-193 for $4.95 a box.  These are boxed 20 per box, 25 boxes per case for a total of $123.75 per case of 500 rounds.
Also I've been advised that I can purchase Winchester Q3131A @ $4.95 a box, 20 rounds per box, and 50 boxes per case of 1000 rounds for a total of $247.50.
Being new to the bulk purchase of ammunition, I am wondering if these prices are  fair.  I don't know where my local gunshop is procurring this ammunition but he's been straight with me in the past.
Can anyone tell me if I should pass?

I could buy the same stuff. [193] at my local gun store for 109.00 per 500.  Not really all that cheap on ammo there usually.  He raised it to 119.00 last week. Thats why I order 99% of my ammo elsewhere. Case in point local shop 16 bucks for 50 rounds of WWB .30 carbine, Ordered 1K from AIM for under 9 bucks a box for S&B. RG 5.56 was 149 per 900 on strippers and in bandoleers in ammo can from them. So far shot 200 rounds with no problem whatsoever.

Those seem a bit high, you might want to check the tacked thread "Ammo Price list" in this forum. Don't forget depending on where you're at you may have to add tax. Looks like you may do a bit better by ordering.

For those prices, I would start looking at Black hills blue box.  It's first rate ammo

I have 2 shops I deal with one close [5 miles], one far[80 miles].  The close shop wants $125/500 for XM, and $5.49 a box for Q3131a.  The Far shop wants $99 for 500 XM [not PD] and $199 for 1k of the Q loads.   I can get cheap or lazy, not both.
