I have a mutt with a 5.56 chambered, chrome lined 20” pencil barrel. I’ve had real good luck with 77 SMK’s (or so I thought) by driving them rather enthusiastically (2,830 fpm). I can consistently put them into a 0.6” – 0.7” group @ 100 yards. I’ve done 4.0” @ 300 yards in a light breeze; and this with a 3X ACOG, using a 4 minute donut to aim with. I was thinking “Well alrighty then!”.

Sunday I take a run at a 500 yard match. Imagine my disappointment when the first seven rounds grouped about 3.5 FEET. Needless to say, I quit and went home. Just goes to show ya………something.

All those things my detractors (of whom there are legions) have said about my shooting myself in the ass with a Palma gun are lies! Lies I tell you!

I think that you will really see how well your 1/9 handles the heavier, longer bullets when you start shooting 200 and over.

Did you see his note about 4" groups at 300y?

Wow, see, in the time it takes the bullet to get there at 2,830 feet per minute, the wind really plays hell on it!

But yeah, I've seen stranger stuff, but if it's a barrel twist issue, they often show up at longer ranges.  I'm curious to hear what someone with AR knowledge has to say so I can file it in the "things to remember" part of my brain!

The "something" that this tells me is that you shouldn't shoot that rifle/ammo combo past 300m. Or in cold weather.

The wind flags were hanging as limp as Chuck Schumer's dick.

Actually, someone lectured me to think twice and post once when I called BS on his 0.25MOA accuracy claim out of an AR.

In all sincerity, I told him that I'd believe it if I saw it in person.

You'll have to measure your accuracy in HOURS OF ANGLE! HOA if you will!

My bro and I had a conversation about this phenomena at Camp Perry this year when discussing loads. In his search for a 600yd load, he found several that would shoot sub-MOA at short range but would be 7- or 8-ring loads back at 600. Play with the loads. At that velocity, you're probably pushing a max load. Try backig off a couple tenths at a time and see how those loads do for you. You might find a slower load that shoots better.
