Was it really Q3131A, or that "other" white box Winchester stuff?  Bass pro near me only has the USA .223 Winchester stuff, not Q3131A

The ammo page on here says everybody is out of stock except Cheaper than Dirt.

I wonder if they are out of stock too, and just havent updated thier website.

What little I had a couple of months ago is just a fond memory.

The bullets are currently corroding in the dirt at ranges in Wallingford, CT and somewhere in the "badlands" of SouthEast PA.

Cheaper Than Dirt's on-line inventory is usually reliable.  But not this time.

Telephone customer service says Q3131A is Out-of-Stock.  The Ammo Price List has been updated.

I can rarely recall things accurately, but I seem to recall a post on here that had a press release stating that IMI has suspended it's contract with Winchester until further notice. I guess once the world hot spots start to cool IMI will once again start supplying this ammo to Winchester.

Somebody come on here and specify if I'm wrong...

I guess I will be going to the next gun show here to see if I can pick up some more. Unless somebody else gets some in stock.

Pardon the noob question, but will this ammo work in a rifle chambered for .223 Rem? I've had my SP1 for almost a month now and I'm dying to shoot it, and this seems like the best ammo to use. I've always been told that they were the same size, like 7.62X51=.308 Win and the like, but I'd hate to ruin a nice rifle by using the wrong ammo

See the Ammo Oracle.  5.56mm NATO is NOT interchangeable with .223 Remington.  If your barrel is stamped .223 Remington, do not use 5.56mm NATO.  You can use .223 Rem. in a 5.56, however.

Most, but not all, AR15's are 5.56.  And few bolt action .223 Rem. can handle 5.56mm.  A good but not infailable clue is the twist rate.  Usually, any rifle with a 1:10" twist or faster is 5.56mm safe BUT NOT ALWAYS!

Of course anything with a custom barrel is questionable.

Well I couldn't find any stamp on the barrel other than the CMP stamp up by the flashhider. However, the stamp on the left side of the receiver under the serial number says .223 caliber. I guess that means this stuff is off limits for me

Ammo Price List > Q3131A > Cheaper Than Dirt.

I've still got a few boxes of Q3131.

It's Uber-Tactical-Collector's stuff though, so I'm holding on to it.

(and NO, none of it is any of the "bad" lots that went BOOM either.)

I just bought 17 boxes from someone (I'm not telling who) and I already, want more.  I'll have to wait though because I need a large quantity of .45 next.  Darn.

It does make you wonder about this whole thing about the suspension of their contract (per troy).  I'm not saying he's wrong, I just hope we keep seeing it in places.  Winchester still shows it listed on their website, which may be a good sign or it may be that it takes these guys forever to updated their sites.  Either way, I'm glad I'm still seeing it, even if it is smaller quantities and more expensive.  I don't need that much and I paid $ 4.25, which in my opinion is not bad at all compared to others.  And my upper seems to like the usa223 also.  And even better yet, their point of impact is very similar.  So, I'm good to go.

Last month I got a case of Q3131A and a case of Winchester USA223R3 62 grain from a favorite stop of mine in Eastern NY.   I go the 62 grain stuff because it performed supurbly both my  AR's and my SU-16.   The shop ahd several cases of the Q3131A but was sold out a few weeks later when I stopped in to get the 62 grain stuff.  At .23 cents per round after taxes, not cheap, but it was there.

I was at a local gun shop over the weekend and saw they had 2 cases of the Win. good stuff, but man they wanted 5.99 a box.

I have bought it at Sports Authority for 2.99 in the past. Bought all they had.
also from Bass Pro for 3.99.

Haven't checked SA for awhile. Maybe they have some.
