What's the heaviest Black Hills load I can fit into a USGI 20 round mag?  I have a Krieger 1:7.7 twist barrel.  I don't want to waste money on ammo that I will have to shoot single shot.

I'd like to look at 69 grain and heavier loads.

Thanks!

I've had no problems with the 75 and 77 loads in my magazines.

What he said.  Hornday 75 HPBT and Sierra 77 Match King.  Also, Black Hills loads 223 with a 73 grain bullet which is the Berger 73 LTB (length tolerant bullet).  That is also a mag length load.

Be aware that there are some commercial reloaders (Reed's Ammo) that load 223 with the 75 grain Hornady AMAX.  That bullet is too long for mag length seating.  Easily distingushed from the Hornady 75 HPBT Match because the AMAX has a red plastic tip.

Are any of these heavy bullets appropriate for hunting?

Not really.  They are match hollow points, and neither expand nor fragment reliably.

Black Hills 77 grain NATO is touted for its fragmentation and has been adopted by US SF because of this.

You should really forget about the NATO BH load, it's almost impossible to get and you can't get it from a certain dealer on the site, it's been cancelled.
