Based upon the facility we were at, I wouldn't be shocked if it came from a SpecOps unit. I'm just curious as to what LC is loading in nickel cases. I am going to guess that it is M 855 just in a nickel case, probably to prevent corrosion for folks that like to swim around in salt water.

Federal loads some of their LE ammo (Fed tactical, TRU ect) in nickle plated Lake City cases. Thats the extra bling-bling you get for $1 a round.

Only the Federal Tactical is nickeled, but otherwise, you are correct (it's made with LC brass, because it is loaded to 5.56 pressures, and Federal's own crap brass can't handle that). -Troy |

It may not be nickle...The cases could be stanic stained. These cases are used for high pressure test cartridges (proof loads). I wouldn't reload them.
Kinda makes ya wonder....did the guys at the range fire off a bunch of proof loads for a little practice/fun, or had they reloaded the used cases....either way, not a good idea  Hotgun |

You could tell by looking if they were proof loads or not; there would be a lot of brass flow on the case head, with impressions of the ejector and extractor. I highly doubt that these were proof loads, which aren't commonly made available to anyone but manufacturers. On a range frequented by police, it would NOT at all be unusual to find Federal Tactical casings, though.
