I purchased the kit from m1s and plan shooting this week.  I'm looking for input on the cheapest accurate production ammo to feed it.  and what groups others have obtained with a 1/8 twist with the ammo. thanx

Define 'accurate'

The cheapest match ammo is BlackHills...

77gr OTM is $20/50rds, and will give the best groups...

On the other hand, Wolf will give you reasonable plinking accuracy (~2-3MOA) and is the cheapest thing out there...

If your chamber is not match, XM193 should do it fine(1-2").  Match chambers could result in higher pressures with this ammo or even reduced accuracy.

Federal Amercian Eagle can be gotten for less and should shoot ok to.

I have a ss 20" with 223 chamber  1/8" twist from  m1s  and it will shoot 3/4" - 1"  5 shot groups at 100yds all day using black hills blue box 68gr Heavy Match Hollow Point

i get those for about $18/50

I suggest you also consider Win 62 gr (or FAE 62 gr which someone has also reported to have had good results with)

It is .223 and has a BC of .28.

I call it my "poor man's match ammo". Only a bit more expensive than FAE 55 gr.
My 1x9 DPMS A2 loves it, and I have shot subMOA groups with it at 100 yds with a 3-9x40 scope.

Should also do well in a 1x8.

I have a RRA Varmint SS 20", 1:8 twist.
My best groups are with the blue box Black Hills 69gr Sierra MKHP.
The groups opened up significantly with Federal 69gr Siera MK BTHP, so I don't use that.
LC M-855  62gr is ok for plinking but a bit wild.
XM193 is fine, but not match accurate (use it in my M4gery).
My shooting with the RRA has been with carry handle irons up till now. Have mounted a scope with Armalite one piece, and need to get out this weekend. (funds are tight, so I stole the 4-16X Simmons off my 10/22!)
