It seems like there's always somebody on a holy quest to obtain some of the old SA battlepac stuff. And the prices commanded when one does locate a batch are on a par with, or higher than, XM-193 and Q3131A.

The question which springs unbidden to the lips is: Why? It's OK stuff and all. I've gone through about 5,000 rounds and still have a couple of tubs left. But, it's about 80 fps slower than XM-193, a lot less consistent, and I've had about a dozen failures to fire over the course of 5,000 rounds.

It was a great deal for plinking ammo when I bought it several years ago for about $.09/round. But high-grade stuff it ain't.

What's the attraction? What am I missing?

Cheap M193 clone.  If you can't get it cheap (like $.09 round) then look for something else.  That was its big attraction, near Q3131A performance with near Wolf prices - AND IT STILL had a brass case.

Its probably the stigma attached to it.  Back when it was available, it was available for cheap, and a lot of people were saying that its great ammo for the price.  Fast forward a few years, coupled with dwindling (and now non-existant) supply and internet repeats, many think its "great ammo".  That's what I think.  The plastic battlepacks were a nice touch, though.

I agree. I bought 1000 rounds of it back in '02 for my new AR-180B. It was okay stuff, it wasn't terribly accurate and I did have an under-powered round fail to cycle the action, but its main attraction was it's price. Now that that's gone, there really is absolutely no good reason to buy any unless you want it for a collection or something.

Because we all fell in love with it back then.

Some morons just cant do the math now, and realize that they are paying out the nose for old ammo.

Wait for the once a year bass-pro sale on Q3131A is what I do.... and just dream of the days when you could get good M193 for 10 cents a round.
