I picked up 5000 rounds of .308 Ammunition marded {Nato 7.62mm Ball M80} 4 EA 5 Round Clips per box. They were Manufactured by {HHC LTD Taipei, Taiwan R.O.C} and imported by Connecticut Cartridge Company, 246 Old Post Road, Southport CT. 06490.

The case rim is marked 7.62 and 97
The ammunition looks great, no dents, clean and bright.
I paid $89.00 per 1K

Has anyone seen or used this ammunition before? I picked up all they had since it was so cheap.
Good buy or DUD?

We had some for sale a few years ago.  Only about a pallet full.  It sold out on a week.  Everyone really seemed to like it.

A few months later we had  a former Tiwanese soldier come by and talk about the care they pit into thir weapons and how high quality everything they produced was/is.  Long conversation, but they only keep and use the best they can get their hands on.

Do you remember what it sold for then?
It seems to have a very thin jacket for a 7.62 bullet with a deep crimp band, I pulled one and found that the bullet weighted 147grs, the brass was very heavy duty for a 7.62 in perfect condition with stalked primers. Im going to try some later today in my match rifle and some in my 7.62X51mm Saiga AK. I was told that my dealer has another 10K coming in with a 97 head stamp which is all the same lot. I have first chance for the lot at $84.00 per 1K if I take the whole thing, I hope this 7.62 works out with my rifles.

I don't remember, it was about 5 years ago. I remember it was a pretty decent price though.

Sorry.

Regarding the importer I think it's,

Hansen Cartridge Company
244-246 Old Post Road
Southport, CT 06490
1-800-556-4867
1-203-259-5424
Bayonets, Yugoslav SS109 + surplus ammo, Ruger distributor, good line of WWII bayonets.

Most likely DBA (Doing Business As) Connecticut Cartridge Co.

I don't think Hansen was the actual importer. I recognized that address too, and it is the importer for Hansen when it was out of yugoslavia, but I think it was more of a "holding company".

Hansen itself was just a line of civilan ammo made by the Yugo government ammo manufacturer.

Bet it frags like a sumbitch, too.  The people of Taiwan are kinda funny about this, they want the PLA troopers to die fast when/if it comes to it.

They are very picky about their military gear.

Its gone, I picked up the last 10K that he had since it worked outstandingly in both of my rifles, very low flash, excellent velocity and great accuracy! I ask if anymore was in the works but its sad to say that the source of the remaining inventory was a supplier who went belly up. Thats why it was so cheap in price and all the same lot. Still I cant find any information about the maker anywhere on the net.

Side Note

I did fire one round into 25"inches of 4 day soaked news print and all I found was a blast creator and a billon fragments up to 16"inches with the most in the first 1.5" to 12" range. I just checked a message on my machine and my dealer maybe able to get 5K more, since my old lady is ready to cut my beans off for spending so much on ammunition that I may let this lot pass.

I ended up paying $82.99 per 1K after all the wheeling and dealing. Im sure my dealer paid much less and just wanted to move it fast so it didnt take space at the shop. He still thinks another 5K to 10K may come his way and now that Im broke if it makes it in I'll post contact info for the dealer for anyone else who wants the same, I shot another round into a 18" by 20" long Jello block that was make out of giant bags of real restaurant lemon Jello that was past its age for use. The Jello was set for 24 hours at 45 degree's and shot once. While this is a joke test using real food Jello it was fun to do and the bullet fragmented once again in the 2.5" to 18" range with the most being in the 4 to 16 inch mark. If I can get a pic to post I will as soon as I find and remove all the remaining Jello from the range since the block blew apart.
