A buddy of mine has recently acquired a full auto Micro Galil with 1/7 twist - 7.2" barrel, chambered for 5.56. He was told by another class III dealer that he could not use 55gr ammo and that using anything smaller than 62 gr would damage the barrel. I find this odd given that the barrel is so short. Also, I would  have thought that mil spec M193 would stablize better in the short barrel.

I am basing my assumptions on what I have learned on this forum to date (since I am new at all this). Also, I realize that this post might be better placed somewhere other than in an AR forum, but I greatly respect all of the diverse folks on here with their broad range of knowlege and expirience with many varied weapons systems.

Any input on this will be greatly appreciated thanks!

Was the dealer trying to sell him some 62 grain ammo?  I can think of no reason he should use M855 in that weapon.

Cycling shouldn't be a problem either, with either cartrige (including M193) since the mil spec loads will be loaded "hotter", right?

Would M193 be suitable for the range?

I agree with Troy 100%.  In a barrel that short your best option are "heavy" soft-points.

M193 should run fine.  For 'serious use' I'd be looking at 75gr TAP or the Mk262 Mod 1.
