Does anyone know the difference between IMI's M855 and there M855 Special Bullet both of which are for sale for the same price at Botach?

The 855S is designed to replicate the M855 without the steel core, just lead with a copper jacket.

Cheers

Really?  So is it actually as long as the SS109 bullet?  Or is it just a plain old 62gr bullet?  The reason I ask is that the SS109 62gr is longer than a normal lead+copper jacket 62gr.

I have always thought the M855S was a match round.

I don't know the actual dimensions of the bullet. IMI designed the M855S to act just like the M855 without the steel core.
Basic physics will tell us something has to give if we remove the steel. My guess is one of two things (1) they simply made the bullet smaller (2) they kept the external dimensions the same and balanced the weights with a thicker copper jacket.
You could ask IMI at the forum on their website if you really want to know.

Cheers,

If a M855 has its Steel removed, ITS NOT M855 anymore!

SO they would have to take out the "M855" before the S.

I agree. I assume IMI simply labels it M855SB so their customers recognize it as ballistically similar.

From their web site:

"IMI's 5.56mm M855, SB (SPECIAL BULLET) cartridge, known as the "silver tip" cartridge, is being sold world-wide."

"BULLET CORE TYPE: STEEL FREE, HIGH ANTIMONY LEAD ALLOY"

Happy shooting,

Chris

PS in many European countries a silver tip denotes a match, sniper or reference load. Maybe it does here too?
