Most of the charts I've seen show a loss of about 100 FPS at the muzzle when shooting 55 gr M193 from the slightly shorter 14.5" barrel as compared to 16".  How does that translate 150-200 yards?  Has anyone chronographed this load at these distances?

From what I understand, the M193 needs about 2700 FPS on impact to fragment and perform as designed.  I'm trying to decide if it's worth chopping a barrel down to a 16" OAL with a pinned Vortex, or if I'd really be better off with the full 16" before the Vortex.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If you use 77 grain NATO ammo you can get 150 yards fragmenting range with a 14.5" barrel.  With M193 its a little over 100.  With a 16" barrel the M193 fragments to 150 yards.

Now all these rounds will fragment further but its not as dramatic or as consistent.  M193 can break up at 2500 fps sometimes, just not very well.
