If anyone has experience with the black tip ss109 ammo sold at ammoman.com, please let me know if it is something you would buy again.

It's pretty good stuff, SS109 bullet, full M855 speed.  Nice ammo, but the primer flash hole is small, it will break decapping pins when reloaded.

We chronographed some of it to be sure.

Good news. Thanks. I was not planning to reload these. I was a bit worried they may be like the underpowered brit SS109s I read about. I was looking for M855 Milspec to use with my 16" M4 and TA01NSN.

Yep, a couple of us got together and got some chronographed and it came out to right at USGI spec.
Some say it's a little dirty, but I don't see it.

If you want the real M855.
Go to www.Wideners.com.
Put your mouse on loaded ammo on the left hand site of the site, and go to IMI. IMI M855 is the real deal same as Lake City.

Edit: It says ss109, but when you get it, it is M855. It ordered it, and damn is it good stuff!

Spooge Out!

Spooge, IMI 55gr chronographs at ~100 fps LESS than LC 55gr from my Bushy 16".

IMI is damn fine ammo, but just a shade lighter loaded than the LC stuff.  YMMV, but I have seen this before.

Are we talking M193 or M855 here?

You CAN'T get new production LC M855.

Thank You Very Much Klinton! [pissed]

I beleive that you can get the New LC 885... what Clinton blocked was the NEW m995 with the tungsten core.

Q. Where can I get US Military ammo, like M193 and M855?

Due to an Executive Order signed by President Clinton, the US military can no longer "surplus" ammunition, except via the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), and the CMP does not sell 5.56/.223 ammo.  US military ammo (most notably from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant) used to be widely available, but has become quite scarce and the prices quite high, in the last few years.  Though some military ammo components are "saved" by contractors disassembling the ammo and selling the components, most expired or out-of-spec lots of ammo are burned.  Billions of rounds of ammo, paid for by US tax dollars, are burned yearly.

It is gotten to be quite common practice to blame every restriction on some sort of super secret Executive Order when none exists.  I really doubt such an EO exist.  If there is such a restriction in place it sounds more like DOD policy to me.

The restriction that really tightened up the availability of surplus M193 is found in 27 C.F.R Part 47.57.  That is the ditty that denies Form 6 approval for US military ammo and firearms.  F.A.I.R. has been working on getting this changed.

Don't want to stray off topic, but I clicked on the wideners link above and I saw this stuff:

It doesn't say, but I'm assuming it's Russian?

wouldn't think $59/500 could be anything but Russian.

No, It's Remington American Eagle .223 not 5.56mm SS109.
