CTD has dropped the price on these to $3.25/20. Sure seems like they were more expensive some weeks ago. Just out of curiosity:

1) Is the bullet steel jacketed like other Russkie ammo, or is it a "fragmentable" gilded jacket.

2) The AR15 ammo FAQ states that S&B has been known to cause kabooms. Is this still applicable, or has everyone's opinion changed ?

$162.50/1000 is not the greatest deal, but it's pretty decent. I can usually find Q3131A at the local gunshow for about $170/1000 including tax, so it's a wash. It would be nice to have a reasonably priced alternative though, especially if the S&B stuff is the real McM193. The real McCoy, get it ? Snort. I crack myself up......

[red]S&B is not "Russkie" ammo.  It's Czech.[/red]

[red]The older S&B had problems.  The newer stuff has supposedly fixed those problems.[/red]

[red]In my experience, S&B is lightly loaded compared to Q3131A.  For the $7.50 price difference, I'd get the Winchester stuff.[/red]

Troy is right (as usual).

S&B is a copper coated STEEL bullet.  It will NOT fragment like real M193.  Not only is it loaded to .223 specs, I find it to be very dirty in comparison to other brands.

If the difference in price between S&B and Q3131A is $7.50 + tax, get the latter.  You would probably be a lot happier.

S&B ammo uses a copper-plated steel bullet jacket.  It is loaded to .223 specs (not like hot 5.56).  The cases are Boxer-primed (reloadable).

It's *possible* the price drop is because they have some older bad lots they want to get rid of, or just because of the low-priced, high-quality ammo available (Q3131A, XM193).

Wow. It's hard to believe they advertise it as M193. That's really misleading. I'll definitely stick to Q3131A for that price.....

TROY I know the M193S&B has a Different Jacket but does it have a steel core LIKE NEWBE says

TROY
I was going from what newbe said up above!

S&B IS A COPPER COATED STEEL BULLET

I DIDNT THINK SO!

It may have some merit against barriers, but smells like cat piss when you shoot it. I think "copperwashed steel jacketed lead cored bullet" might be a better term for it's construction IMHO.

YMMV

Exactly what MM419 said!  Perhaps I did not clearly explain what I meant to say.

No one claimed S&B "M193" has a steel CORE.  It has a lead core, but has a steel jacket.  It does not fragment at .223 speeds at any distance.

It has excellent penetration against hard targets, too.  All the speed of 55 grains, with the Tomback jacket.
It won't expand or frag on much of anything, though.
