My AR-15 is chambered in 223 Wylde. Can I shoot 5.56 Lake City in this. I don't want to invest in the wrong ammo and hurt myself or the rifle. To be honist I'm lost when it comes to what the technical differences are and how they affect the firearm. I just want to be safe.

Thanks

You can shoot both 5.56mm and .223 Rem in a Wylde chamber.  If you are really worried, buy a couple of boxes to try out.  I don't suspect you will have problems at all with LC ammo.

The .223 Wylde chamber was designed, if I'm not mistaken, to give a shorter throat than the 5.56mm NATO chamber, but still long enough to shoot mil-spec ammo.  The idea was to make the jump to the lands shorter to help increase accuracy without jacking up pressure with the hotter military ammo.  You should be fine.
