9mm upper, forward mounted side-charging.  Only see it for sale at Brownells. Odd company name.  Anyone heard of them or try one?

Thanks

So I was on the fence, but (and this is in all honesty) the fact that I actually got some input leads me to beleive I have no choice other than to go buy one and report back.  After all, the hive needs input!  Lord knows I have culled enough useful information off this site to more than pay for an upper....  Purchasing now.
ETA: Most of my crap is currently in storage but I think I have both a glock and PSA colt style lower available.  Will try on both.

Did you get Rifle or Pistol length?

I like the fold down charging handle (I wonder why more companies don't offer this feature) and the gas deflector that appears to be removable or replaced by a larger version, if desired/available.

I look forward to reviews.

Rifle.  My initial plan had been to basically make set it up like my 5.56 and use for practice (not sure I can claim to be "training") at indoor range.  Like my M&P 15-22, but with the added benefit of that 9mm bolt slapping around helping me improve at muzzle control, transitions and follow through.

Of course then I should have gone with standard rear charging upper for same user interface, but this thing just looked cool...

Did you  receive yours? I saw this and have really wanted it but coulsnt find anything on it. I really hope it can work with colt mags.

[#11]
It does not work with my psa colt lower but was not advertised that it could. So far it ran great on glock lower as it should.  Will post more detailed review later.

Quick range report: 109/110 rounds cheap bulk WWB and tulammo 9 mm ball worked great.  And one FTF was from new ETS 31 rounder.   Forward left side cocking handle works well. No last round BHO w magpul or ETS mags and palmetto lower.

Apologies for the photo quality. And background.  Old holiday tablecloth = good portable work surface.  Man I'm sick of moving. Haven't had a workbench for 2 years.

Have not shot with law adapter yet. But bolt center weight came out easily and install was fine.  Optic is clunky for this, but it was around.  Will go irons +- mrds I think.

The photos actually hurt my eyes. Got to dig up my real camera.

Update: range report

Added LAW folding stock adapter the other day. No issues. Added JP spring. Went to indoor range today. Spring smoothed things out a bit. Shot another 120 rounds with no failures. Mixed Russian steel case, WWB, 20 rounds of JHP. magazines were magpul and ETS. Upper is runs and is fun.  My brother in law was with me and he is not (yet) much of a GI guy but he started asking me what it cost and where to get one.

I had iron sights on it. Groups were limot d by shooter ability. This thing is getting an MRO next...

HK style charging...

Think if I went for side charging I'd get one on the receiver, like the FAL.

Only downside I see aside from cost is that you have to use their hand guard, etc. as well.

BUT ... it is way cool to see a new design out with features that will make a lot of folks happy.

Ivan

Ya you are stuck with the handguard, noted.  The handguard is ultra slim and light.  We actually sell a lot of them aftermarket for 5.56 rifles.

Finally was able to take my 9mm build, w/FM-9 upper, out for a test drive. Other than ASC mag issue, which is a quick and easy fix to the mag, the rifle ran flawlessly! What a fun firearm to own.

This build started with a standard 5.56/.223 80% lower(now machined), standard LPK and buffer tube, Kaw Valley 7.5oz buffer w/heavy spring, added a Hahn dedicated conversion block, and 16" upper from FM Products...using a Cmmg COLT bcg.

I want to thank Foxtrot Mike and the guys from FM Products for doing the research and field testing for the use with COLT lowers. Also would like to say that their customer service is top notch, willing to go the distance for their customers!????

So the bolt release and safety are the only ambi parts on the lower?  No mag release?

Yes the mag release is ambi as well.  Both for the primary and the reserve magazine in the grip too.

I gotta say....it's not very often someone does exactly what I post, and creates a really great thread.

Not only did the OP step up and buy one, but he got pics and vids.

Then...the manufacturer comes on here providing information and updates.

Great thread OP.
And thank you to FMP for the updates..... and the very nice products.

Hey....that gives me an idea.......

FMP should create a contest/giveaway for one of their uppers !!

So the CH is reversible for lefties? Or is there an option to run folding handles on both sides? I am a lefty but my kid isn't. :)
Link Posted: 9/24/2017 11:14:30 AM EDT
[#44]
We actually have a dual side charging handle we are making now.  Yes the handle is reversible.  We have (2)options coming out that will likely solve that problem.  If you pick up an upper, IM me and I will get you sorted on a handle when they come online.

Sam they are Glock style uppers.  We are working on a Colt Upper with DSG Arms.  We are still working on the bolt testing.  We have had good results, but when we mixed in a few vendors mag blocks and lowers, we started seeing room for improvement.

Hit us up if you need any help with your build.
