If you were buying for a drop in...

CMMG
http://stores.9mmar.com/cmmg-9mm-complete-upper-16-m4a3/

RRA

http://stores.9mmar.com/rra-9mm-complete-upper-half/

Are these good quality uppers? Are There others, in the same price range ($5-750) that I should consider.  Looking and really don't know that much about the 9 mm. Any help would greatly appreciated!

I've got the stripped lower, the Hahn Dedicated mag well block, a lower parts kit. Have a spare carbine buffer tubee and spring, may need a spacer and heavier buffer.

I can do you a complete 16 inch upper with a bolt that will run on colt or glock mags with an 11 inch keymod forearm, a slick side flat top receiver, and a heavy extended length buffer for $699 plus shipping...and guarantee it to run. Shoot me an email....I won't be back in the shop till early next week....will be at Knob Creek all weekend.

I'd do this. Rudy's stuff always works, and when people buy from other manufacturers Rudy is the guy that ends up fixing it. Save yourself the time and just go straight to Rudy.

I've always had good luck with RRA, but I never mix and match. I used all RRA parts (except mags) because I started with a RRA stripped lower.

If I was looking now, I'd use Rudy. If for no other reason than the input he adds to these boards.

IMO, you can't beat the knowledge of the platform and the easy access for communication.

My complete upper from Rudy is in the ballpark of 1,500 rounds straight w/o malfunction, and never been cleaned so far. Now I'm just interested to see how long it'll go without cleaning til it jams

Take a look at JSE Surplus complete 9mm uppers also. I have one and runs great. No issues whatsoever.

Any of those manufacturers are very good IMHO, I'd be hard pressed to say which is best.

CMMG has a long history of 9mm gear, and I've never gotten anything bad from YHM, especially their 7.62x39 stuff.

I went with a RRA, mostly for small reasons (RRA was available in a midlength and didn't have the M4 notch, had a FSB and was going on a RRA lower).

Looks like CMMG & YHM already have ramped bolts, I'm assuming you've factored in the cost of having the RRA bolt ramped, unless RRA started doing that themselves.

I got my RRA 9mm upper from Adco and had them ramp the bolt for me.

Get one with a 9mm upper.   No forward assist, no hole in the front for a gas tube.   Best Buy would be one from Mad Machinist.

I bought a CMMG complete upper and have no problems related to the upper. Over 1000 through it, runs great.

Where do you source your upper receivers? I have been looking for one with no FA or brass deflector but with the door hinge with no luck. do you happen to sell them by any chance?

I know Aero makes them with the brass deflector...

If you want one without the brass deflector nipple, I think it's Rock River Arms, Model 1 Sales(where I got mine),  or find a used Colt.

These are the 'droids you're looking for

I've used them on all my 9mm builds.  Great guy to work with, too.
