So I ordered my TacSol M4 upper from Gunkings.com last Saturday and had it in my grubby hands by this past Thursday (thanks Jim K. for the excellent service!).

Thursday night I ran a patch down the bore to make sure everything was cool.  Also, inspected the bolt assemby and sprayed it down with Rem oil and let it dry out overnight.

Friday I lightly coated the rails with CLP and the hammer reset surface on the bolt with Brownell's Action Lube.   I then assembled the upper onto a RRA NM lower and headed to my local range.

Right now, I'm a happy camper.  I ran 100 Fed bulk rounds through the gun.  Early on, I had six FTEs in the first 40 rounds - kind of par for the course, based on other posts I have read.  In the remaining 60 rounds, only two FTEs - this is more like it, I thought.  So, an encouraging trend as things get worn in and settle down a bit.

Accuracy was as good as I could expect with my 50 year old eyes and the standard A2 sights I had mounted.  At 25 yds off of a sandbag rest, I could consistently fire ten round groups into a two inch bullseye.  In the future, I will be trying the combination at longer distances with both a smaller aperture leaf in the A2 sight and also some different optics that I have on hand.  With these, the accuracy should be right on the money based on past experience.

Bottom line - the TacSol M4 upper conversion appears to be a winner.  Only time (and a few thousand rounds will tell).

Shoot safe.

Mike

Agreed.
I thought your review was concise & well-done, but this (and every) thread is useless without gun porn.

Nice. I was thinking about Tac-Sol upper and was wondering if they used a dedicated set up or used the conversion with the chamber adapter?

Congrats.
Tac Sol's conversion is great. I have 2 M4s ( 1 with A2 carry handle & 1 with a Buris red dot).
Try Remington Thunderbolts 40 grn.
They run like a Champ, Flawless operation so far ( 500+ rds Knock on wood)

It is a dedicated upper with a high quality chrome moly 1:16" twist barrel.   Worth a look, IMHO.
