Can one of you post a pic of the 9mm upper with the handguards removed?  I would like to see a good picture of the barrel profile for a 16" config.

From the ones that I've seen, and my 40, they are like an HBAR.  They can be turned down by a decent gunsmith.  ADCO and KKF come to mind.

like that with a .75" sight base seat

newer ones, .98" from the barrel extension to the shoulder for the handguard cap
