Hello,

Are there any options for 9mm flash hiders out there?  I would like to get a Vortex but I don't think they make one big enough!!!  I also remember seeing MP-5s with a Vortex like flash hider - I wonder if that would work?

MP-5 with a "Vortex" looking hider would be a "3-lug" atachment...

Smith makes a 9mm Vortex FS (www.smithenterprise.com) .

Costs $55.00 & is threaded in 1/2x28 tpi only (most 9mm are threaded 1/2x36).

I put one on my Tommy15 and its now the cats meow

I looked at Smith's site and all I saw were 7.62 and 5.56 for sale - I'll go back and double check!

Any idea what RRA threads their 9mm barrels to?

You can use AK flash hiders and just about anything else you want.  You just might have to bore out, plug, and re drill and tap to the thread you need.

Spooky130,

Originally, when I called SmithE a few months ago, they said there was no need or demand for a 9mm Vortex FH. Afterwards, I believe Ron @ SmithE made a few prototype 9mm flash hiders out of  .223 blanks...  The only drawback is that they are threaded for 5.56mm rifles instead of 9mm rifles.

I don't believe he has them listed on the website.

He said he could make a "one-off" 9mm Vortex FH w/ 1/2x36 TPI, however, I'd cost $180.00 to produce.

Edited to add:

If you have a postban RRA barrel, you should be able to have any competent gunsmith thread it in any thread pitch you want....

Yes, I'm about to bore out a .223 phantom for 9mm.  I'll post the results when its done.

I'll be attatching it to 1/2 x 28 threads, though, as opposed to 1/2 x 36.

I'll be interested to see how the re-boring goes...

I talked to Ron Smith about a .458 caliber Vortex and he said once they are heat treated they are almost impossible to re-bore due to their hardness...

I think I might just stick with my A2 style...
