I'd go for it... I've found Thompson mags for $15... I have five for my Thompson, but would prefer an AR platform to launch from, cuz that Thompson is HEAVY...

If I could find a 45 upper/lower combo for greasegun mags I'd go for a 10" or so and register it as an SBR, it would also make an awesome AOW with a forward grip/no stock. Only $5 to register the AOW!
