I am looking at doing sort of a ''retro'' build. Any good sources for a quality A2 mid length upper?

RRA or build your own from the EE.

DEL TON OR PK FIREARMS

Del-Ton usually gets my business because I demand A2 uppers on most of my builds.
Sometimes PK firearms carries A2 complete uppers, not often.

Armalite makes one like that in factory config.

Reasonable price too.

Armalite or RRA would be my first choice. My buddy went with RRA upper, CMMG lower w/ A1 butt stock and is well pleased, slick little gun it is.

Those are the two I am most interested in. Armalite just calls their mid length an A2 carbine

They are the originators; Why wouldnt they?

To them, its not just a flavor of the month option.

I bought an Armalite ML A2 upper.  A-No. 1 product.  It is a little heavier than an M4 /GI profile barrel, but that is a good thing.  It is 1/9 twist, but chrome lined.

I also have one of their 20" standard barrels, which are also sort of a mid-weight profile.  Good stuff.

You ArmaLite guys also have one of the best, if not THE best barrel profiles in the business.   Not too heavy and not too light, just perfect.

If Armalite started to offer some GI profile or lightweight barrel configs, they would become even more popular.

Love to see somebody do a Middie M4 style hand guard to firt all those KISS Middies out there.  The ArmaLite handies were the only
real gripe I had with the whole piece....that being a 16" Carbine with A2 upper.
