I recently purchased a Barrett REC7 with both 5.56 NATO and 6.8 SPC uppers. My apologies for what may seem a very basic question, but it's not covered in the owner's manual. Further, I have tried to contact Barrett several times by email and they haven't responded, and my search of the internet has not been fruitful. My question revolves around the 2-position gas block adjustment. The gas adjustment pin on both barrels came in what I will call the "up" position (roughly 10 o'clock as you are looking at it from the front of the barrel). Since both came this way I presume this is the preferred position, but am not sure. The "down" position is roughly at 8 o'clock. Any help regarding what the 2 positions are for, and also what the "normal" position is would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

I don't have it handy to look at at figure it out from a clock perspective but if you have the plug out and put it back in, the first stop it will come to is suppressed. The second and final stop is normal. I had the same question and I can't remember where I finally found the info.

Is that consistent on all generations of the Rec 7 gas blocks?  Anybody know for sure?

10 o clock is un suppressed,next position is suppressed.You can double check by calling Barrett.E Mail response sucks. went through the same thing,and asked them to publish the piston setting for those of us who don't own a crystal ball but did RTFM.If you dont feel like fng w them call outpost armory in christiana TN.They are next door to Barrett,the guys in sales know the rec 7 very well. HTH..
if all else fails the position that wont allow the rifle to chamber a round is un supressed.
