How much weight did that cut?

It looks like it takes a lot off.

I have been looking for someplace to do radial cuts.

Can you do just the radial cuts without the spiral on a stainless barrel?  Cost?

This is an ignorant question, so please forgive me in advance: Do those sharp right angles in between the "teeth" on that barrel milled that way introduce a lot of potential for cracks to develop under repeated firing from barrel whip?

I've had several barells done by ADCO.  Top notch.
I recommend to anyone wanting barrel work.

Assuming high volume range sessions, should the tremendous increase in surface area dissipate heat and contribute to extended barrel life?

I'm a bit lost here. I'm not seeing this barrel on your website for sale. Do you sell this as a finished product or do I need to supply the barrel and if so what barrel do you need to make this? Thanks.

It looks cool...like a light saber or blaster barrel.

But I have my doubts about it having any advantages. One it doesn't remove anywhere near as much weight as a light weight or as they are called pencil barrel. Two since the cuts are made across the barrel the strength is still only equal to the smallest diameter. And when stress is applied to a barrel it bends  where it is weakest. If you spread the weak area as wide as possible the bend will induce little stress and cracking will be less likely If you concentrate the stress on half the area by alternating strong and weak sections the stress will concentrate at those weak areas and if those weak areas are contained within square corners commonly called a stress riser breakage is much more likely to happen.

All that said for the vast majority of us our guns will never be subject to that kind of abuse so these do look like fun.

As of right now, we are only performing the service, you would have to supply the barrel. Any carbine or mid-length would do. Heavy barrel profiles look a little better than medium, but either will work.

OK, that sort of answers my question. But when I Google Search "Non-contoured heavy barrel 5.56" I get no results other then contoured 5.56.

Could someone point me in the direction of a 16" non-contoured 5.56 heavy barrel you can work with?

Thanks!

The way I see it, it is a give and take.  Yes, it is not as light weight as a pencil barrel, but pencil barrels heat up quickly.  With the radial flutes, it increases the surface area tremendously, so its cooling ability increases as well, but it still is not as light as a pencil barrel.  Maybe the radial cuts are a good balance between weight loss and the ability to stay cool for continuous, accurate, fire?  I can't say without testing it, but none the less, I love the way it looks and wouldn't mind getting the radial fluting done simply for the looks.

I had this done recently with the spiral and radial flutes. I have to say that it is simply beautiful.  I have never ever been so happy with a product.  I wish I could post pictures but I dunno how.  Anyways-trust me.  Best decision I ever made.

Curse you ADCO! I had just decided that my 10.5" HBAR was fine as it is. I guess it will bring back memories of my late and lamented Thompson.

I just recently purchased a Nordic Component 18" stainless barrel that I'm contemplating whether to have fluted with straight or radial flutes...

Can you let me know if my barrel can be radial fluted for the entire length of barrel? Diameter is straight .800" to the gas block location which is .750", and then .740" from gas block location to the barrel thread.

Can you do 4 or 6 shallow straight flutes on top of the radial flutes? If yes, how much would that cost?

Thanks much for your time.

Not sure on terminology here-

Looks like ball cut on the spiral and square on the radial. Any chance of ball on the radial ?

Is there any loss of accuracy with this? I know I've seen it discussed about if the barrel will move after that much material is taken off.

Can you do the spiral flutes without all of the crosscuts (radial?) as well?

Can something like this be done to an ss barrel without loss of accuracy?
