Hello all,
With the introduction and popularity of our drop-in tail cap and lamp kits, we've had an enormous response from folks who did not need a strobe and/or a programmable tail cap and just had a need for our high output (256 at the emitter and 195 out the front) lumen lamp assembly. We actually had such a high demand from some Mil and LE units for the stand-alone lamps, we've caught up on production from our brave men and women in harms way, and these are now available to the commercial market!! Just to recap for some folks not familiar with our original lamp assembly that went with our tailcaps, here is the link; DROP-IN KIT Most of the drop-ins out on the market are of 2 types: tightly focused "thrower" or wide angle "wall of light". While both of them have their specific uses, neither addresses a general or tactical application. Our Cree Q5 LED Drop-in lamps represent a perfect compromise between distance capabilities of a bright hot spot and usable amount of light provided by generous side-spill. With a 2-Hour continuous run-time, we can think of no other drop-in lamp to really see in the shadows of indoor and outdoor environments. Also please be assured our lamps fit perfectly with the surefire lamp covers and allow them to screw all the way down with no gaps. Specifications. Lamp: Cree Q5 Voltage: 4-15V Output: 256 lumen Runtime: 2+ hours 1 year warranty For Suefire models: G2, G2L, G2Z, G3, 6P, 6PD, 9P, Z2, , C2, C3, and M2 PRICE: $44.99 (Plus Shipping) We also thought since the normal inexpensive G2 Surefire lights with our drop-in lamp has now become a TRUE all-around fighting light, we are offering special combo packages for the Surefire G2 and 6P Standard with our lamps. The G2L with it's metal head will dissipate heat much better if you plan to use the lamp for extended ON duration times. G2 Nitrolon PRICE: $78.00 (Plus Shipping) G2L (Aluminum Head) PRICE: $109.00 (Plus Shipping) 6P Standard PRICE: $100.00 (Plus Shipping) These are now up on our web site for immediate ordering! Thanks all, Vic |

What would be the price on a complete 6P with the Q5 emitter installed?
6P original - $100.00 plus shipping. |

Looks promising. I have a few questions though:
Who makes them/what brand? Are these Surefire brand? Warranty? Is that lumen rating measured at the emitter or "out the front"? What does the beam pattern look like? How white is the beam? Specs on the reflector please such as smooth vs orange peel, "degrees" of light dispersion. Realistically, what is the usable range for this light? The "2 hour" run time rating, is that with a 2 or 3 cell light (since both are listed)? What is the current draw of the emitter? And finally, when one buys the light/emitter combo, do they get the standard Surefire lens/bulb assembly that came with the light too? Thanks in advance, Eric |
Take a look in our drop in kit Eric, the same bulb shown there, these have been out for awhile now. We've updated the pics above showing the beam of the lamp. Of course when one orders the SF light, the original SF lamp comes with the unit. Thanks!
Is this product safe to drop into a G2 with the Nitrolon bezel, or do you recommend using an aluminum bezel for better heat dissipation? Thanks in advance!
If one is going to use the light for long "ON" duration periods, I would use the G2L for better dissipation. We have added the G2L to our line up as well.
How long would you define as "long duration"? Thanks again for the responses, this product looks truly awesome! |
An hour or more. |

These are now up on our web site for immediate ordering. It looks like a "FEW" folks beat me to the punch with this announcement today! All orders going out today!! Thanks gents!
Vic |
Vic, all my G2's are running Z32 shock bezel's. Will this still fit them & will the shock bezel affect the heat dissipation of your drop in lamp? THanks! |
Yes and no, you're good to go! Should have been a poet....Naw |
You're a poet & we know it! p.s. any new package deals if we order the lamp + the talicap? |
The lamp kits with the tail cap are already marked down $5.00 from retail. Thanks! |

Is this any different than the $20 (shipping included from Hong Kong) generic assembly Q5 I bought on ebay for my Surefire G2? The one I picked is much brighter than the standard Surefire lamp and seems to give better battery run times. I carry it as a backup to my backup flashlight working night shift because I'm still not sure about the reliability of something that was sent to me from Hong Kong. I'd probably be more comfortable with it coming from an American source, but not so much if it's just the same product marked up and redistributed here.
I do not know about that one. The manufacturer is headquartered here in the USA. AS for reliability of these lamps....Been running dozens of my own for over a year now with not one single issue. Hope this helps.

How do these compare to the Deal Extreme for $12.42?
www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11621 Are they made in Asia as well? |
I have no idea about comparisons to all the other models out there. We've been using the units we offer for over a year with our tailcaps (and stand alone) and they have functioned perfectly and are the brightest and most dependable unit out there and also fit perfectly with the selected Sf lights. You can purchase a $12.00 unit and try them out. We've done enough testing with hundreds of happy customers with our tailcaps and this lamp combination to know a great product. We just decided to now offer the lamp on it's own and we have not ONE return on the lamps. Hope this helps.
Vic Edited, also if for some reason you do not like this lamp (which we HIGHLY doubt), we will GLADLY refund your purchase AND shipping no questions asked. No restocking fee or any other hidden cost. |

i got some of these from vic and i'm very happy with them. the throw is comparable (or better) than my MN11 bulb (225 lumens) in my SF M961. i've tried them in 6P, P6 with shock-resistant bezel, G2, C2 and scout light (incandescent head), and a couple of off-brands that take P60/P61 lamps and they dropped in and worked in all of them without alteration. no gap between the head and body either.
i've waited for a while before converting my P60-type lights to LED, simply because i wasn't sure which one would work well out of all the conversions - wolf eyes, etc. when vic started offering these without the tailcap, i gave him my business because i can track him down if they didn't work it was a no brainer - a SF P60L with 80 lumens, or this one with 256 lumens for pretty much the same price. the beam is BRIGHT, has a tightly focused center spot (even tighter than the MN11), with a wide spill beam. all in the small package of a 6P size, without the weight and bulk of the larger lights. i'm just waiting for someone to come out with a super bright LED conversion for the M961 series so i can justify using it again. |
Vic,
Got mine today. In short, they rock! I haven't had time yet to do any side by side comparisons between these and my slew of other drop-ins, but right out of the box they are impressive to say the least. The blow away my current 230 lumen drop-ins and the spill is perfect for indoor use. For the record, the reflector's are entirely LOP. Contrary to our phone conversation. Cheers, Jason |

Glad you gents are enjoying the lights, I knew you would! Militarymorons is correct about those old heavy weapon lights are a thing of the past in our eyes unless some substantial lumen increase is available.
Vic |
Militarymorons has just posted a great review of the lamps here, www.militarymorons.com/weapons/wlights.html#tnvc
We have LOT's of units that went out last week and a ton over the weekend! Please remember the lamps were made SPECIFICALLY for the lights indicated, we have no testing with 95xx or 96xx lights. Thanks guys!
Vic |
Talk about a great guy! Thanks Victor and I'll be sure to recommend you to all of my friends. (About the damage, only the fences were hit and they are fixed.)

Vic,
I read the rest of the posts and saw heat references for long "on" periods with a G2. My question pertains to durability as a weaponlight. I'm presently using a G2 with surefire P60L bulb assembly on my AR carbine. Is your 256 lumen drop in LED ok to use as a weaponlight in the G2 as is, or do I need the Z32 bezel (no long "on" usage, just momentary up to maybe 30 seconds)? Mainrotor |
Your G2 standard will be just fine for your applications. Hope this helps. Vic |

Some further feedback. Thanks!

I have a 12 volt/4 cell Surefire knockoff that was sold by Sportsman's Warehouse. I think Cabela's is selling it now. I like the brightness, but the runtime is really short. Will your lamp fit this 4 cell light, and if so, what will it do for the runtime? Thanks
Got a chance to play with the HIDI Lamps and they are amazingly bright with great throw distance. We have a flashlight guy working on the review as we speak. If you are looking for a drop in, I can recommend these without question.
Thanks, looking forward to the review, we knew you gents would like these! 32Special, I do not know about the knock off Surefire, we have extensively tested the drop-in's only with factory units. Take a look at our special G2 package deals, they are hard to beat! Thanks! Vic |

Victor:
Got one of the light/switch combos. Light is great. However, the tailcap will not work. Tried it on a 6P and a M2. No go on either. Help? |

Give us a call, that would be the fastest. Be glad to help! |

just ordered one. any idea if/what rechargable batteries go with this unit? im looking at this battery.....www.lighthound.com/AW-RCR123a-Protected-750-mAh-Battery_p_0-114.html#
the battery IS circuit protected and will fall in the 4-15V ranges with 2 batteries in a 6P. im wondering whats your opinion on this and did you test any rechargable units? thanks and i cant wait to get this lamp! |

Vic,
Don't know if SF makes a 9PD. Would a 6PD cover fit on a 9P... to perfection, with the new kit? Thanx. Had to come back!!! Forgot to say "Thank you" for the advice and smooth purchase of the X300 w/grip switch on my daughter's G19. |
I have one of these. It's really cool. I recommend it to anyone. Better than surefire no doubt.

Must be the pic. We can assure you these screw all the way down with no issues. Do you own one of these? Please see all the reviews here. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=20&t=394099&page=4 Hope this helps
Vic |
Vic,
Do I own one? Not yet, but I'll pass if the above picture of bezel to body fit is accurate... openbolt |
Wow, after pages of reviews you still will not believe it? We have sold THOUSANDS of these units with not ONE return due to fit. Our vast military and LE folks also have no issues with form fit or function, Our refund policy is pretty open to say the least on these lamps. If for ANY reason your not happy with the lamp, you can send it back on me. No problem.
Hope this helps. Vic |
my 6P LED with TNVC lamp also has a small gap between the body and head. lamp works perfect and brighter than the 80 lumen P60L, but i dont think its anywhere near 250 lumens. i dont go swimming with my flashlight but that gap is noticable.
i dont have a light output tester to test the units. also, i noticed inside of the body was scratched. it looks like the bottom of the lamp assembly (where the solder points are) is being stopped at this point of the body and thats why there is a gap. overall im happy with the purchase. |
If there is a scratch, please return the unit for a replacement and as stated. The units also are at 250 lumens at the emitter and are far brighter than a 80 lumen light. Once again, please return the unit for the scratch (the gear needs to be perfect) and we want to inspect the assembly with our 6P's. We have sold many lamps over the years and we have not one issue with this. Hope this helps.
