My first retro build.  Brownell's upper and blemished barrel.  Palmetto lower.  Shoots great at 25 yards (three rounds in the same hole.)

Nice looking build.  Watch out, retro is addicting.

Very nice looking rifle!  Congrats on your retro cherry having been popped.  God willing you won't become a hopeless addict like so many of us!

Looks like a good shooter, too!  Get familiar with your M193 ballistics, now.  Zeroed dead-on at 25 yards means you'll be shooting higher at longer ranges.  Using M193 ammo, if you adjust your point of impact to be about 1.25" inch below your point of aim at 25 meters, you'll be pretty much dead on at 250 meters.
If you search teh web, I'm sure there are ballistics charts for whatever ammo you plan to shoot.

Have fun!!

Cool rifle, and always nice to see another retro build come to life!

Are you going to keep it black or go full retro (in terms of color)?

Actually, the upper, charging handle, trigger guard, selectors and lower are Norrel's gray-black.  The photo makes it look black.

Oh ok, get your name on the waiting list for an A1 lower from NoDak and you're completely there. Even if you don't do that, it looks great.

Is this your first ever experience with an A1 rifle?

Yes, my first build.  Did everything myself except for barrel installation.  I had a guy at a New Orleans gun show install it for me.  I know its not 100% historically accurate, but I figure another AR15 in the world irritates the Liberals!

How'd you like shooting it? I've always loved shooting it, even going back to days in the Army.

Nice build. Looks like the Brownells barrel has really delivered. It was a good thing that they partnered with Ballistic Advantage on these barrels.

What's not historically accurate on it?

I assume he's talking about the A2 lower and the tic type selector.

Nice build. You're gonna want an A1 style lower for your next one I bet.

Yes, the A2 lower is not accurate, but maybe an A1 repro will be in the works, someday.  Right now, I have a lot of LSU tuition to pay.  I just like the Vietnam look.  "CHARLIE DON'T SURF!"

That's the rifle that I carried and slept with in the 80's and 90's, in fact I wouldn't be at all surprised if every rifle that I was ever issued, had done time in Vietnam. My various issued rifles had both type E and type D stocks. All had black slings.

Keep an eye on Brownell's A1 Lowers. Their entire recent batch had the "Safe" "Semi" on the right side, so they yanked them off the site and will eventually sell them at a reduced price as blems.

The 'blem' can be fixed with some JB Weld and a little work.

Looks great!  I just finished my build a month or so ago also using a blem barrel.

What ammo are you shooting?

Steve

I'm using 55 grain PMC.  The 1 / 12 twist requires 55.  At least that's what I'm told.

Nice 1st retro M16A1 OP. Like everyone is saying, purchase a NDS A1 lower when you can. Nice ZERO target too! Looks like your ready for some serious shooting at this point.

Yup, I am shooting Wolf Gold 55 grain ammo, but not getting groups as good as you are.
