Which grey matches Colt's the best? It would be cheaper to get a black  $39.95 flat top from AIM....and I may go that route. I need something to put some glass on to cap some coyotes, I have built a .22 plinker carbine with a carry handle mount and BSA scope, so I am not that crazy about putting a decent scope on a carry handle. The only reason I'm looking at a possible grey flat top, at twice the price, is I have a delta ring with a purple hue that matches the purplish tint of the old flat slip rings...sounds stupid.

Original finish Colt 604 upper on NDS lower, a very close match.

Carry handle works but I'm not crazy about the way I have to hold the carbine.

Norrell's Moly Resin grayish-black flat, hands down best match for retro finishes.

I'm not doing it myself, going to buy one off the shelf (linked above) if I get a grey flat top.

Thats sniper grey.

Compare with the carbine above it (nodak lower, 604 upper.) I think Sniper Grey is as close as you're going to get, but its still kinda light.

After going that route, Im not too excited about any kind of spray on finish for a retro clone. Ill just pay to get something reanodized.

That looks like it doesn't have quite enough hardener in it.

Would folks pay for a custom mix that's darker?

Thanks for the info,Kid and BW, looks like I'll just grab a black one and be done with it. I'm a cheap bastard anyway and I've got a few black lowers....but grey AR's are cool.

I have to agree with boywonder "sniper grey" The 2 on the left are "sniper grey" the the 2 on the right are 1975 and 1976 SP1's.

I had a 603 clone in Sniper Grey.

It's too blue in natural light, I wouldn't recommend going that route.
