I picked up my two Nodak XM battlefield pickup lowers today!

I ordered them back in March but called earlier this week and they had blems so I took them. So here's a pic of the build box...who can guess what it's going to be?


Another question, the FSB is a new production one and much blacker than the barrel. Anybody ever try navel jelly on a FSB? Any other ideas to lighten it up and make it look a little more worn to match the rest of the build?

My other XM lower which is going to go on an XM16 build. Should the XM have a dimpled safety and/or take down and pivot pins?

Now I need to hook up with my buddy with all the tools and get 'em put together.

early ones did.  depending on what barrel you were going to use, you can decide on the dimpled parts.  on my early xm16e1 w/ mvp12 barrel, i have transitional bolt catch, dimpled selector, takedown/pivot pins, carbon steel gas tube, no drainhole stock screw, edgewater, early buffer tube w/o modified wrench flats, chrome xm16e1 bcg and skinny pistol grip.

some here have found type C stocks on early models too.  i have one with the early square ejection port cover.

A member here (forgot who) used naval Jelly on a barrel and we were all surprised, but it came out very nicely aged. I say go for it.

Cal30M1 and somebob can give you some aging tips.  they've both some some excellent work on aging.

Now there's a fun weekend in the making.

It's not an early bend gas tube and they're drain hole HGs but it will have to do for now.

Edit: now that I look at the picture again I realize it's the wrong sling too. That should be an easy fix at least.

To answer your question, yes.  I did the Naval Jelly treatment on my FSB.  I ordered a .625 FSB from Midway.  It's a Double Star, and was black.
I figured if I screwed it up, I could always cold blue it.
It's actually a little lighter than my new McKay barrel.  Looks good.

Should the FSB for an early 604 have the forging flash removed? If so, it may be the easy way out to send it to John Thomas and let him work his magic on it.
