Thanks Aimless.  This could possibly be a good thing.  Hope bickering is kept to a minimum.  Might help bring a little life to retro and introduce some new members to this pretty cool site.  Don't forget there is still the retroblackrifle forum also. Now to work on the quality photo thing.

I'm a newb so I don't understand the social complexities of asking for item appraisals on this forum. Only reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to figure out how much money I'd have to offer in order to buy one of these items today - basically I'm asking what the"turn loose of it" price for these itmes would be if some collector is hanging on to them.  Sorry if I am in violation of any rules of which I am not aware because I'm a relative outsider. Here's the itmes:

1) A NOS (or excellent condition) A1 profile 20" SAK MP B chrome lined barrel (SACO defense contract replacement barrel for M16A1). Condition like this:

2) What about an A1 profile 20" Colt chrome-line barrel marked "C MP B". Condition same as above:

If I had a bunch of money and wanted either of these items right now, what would one expect to have to pay for the above items 1) and 2)?

thanks-
Thirtycal

I sold a C MP B marked barrel in excellent used condition for $310 shipped on 7/12/2010 through GunBroker.  I think I got top dollar for it and had listed it with that price because I wasn't in a particular hurry to sell it.  By all rights the SAK barrel should be close in price, perhaps slightly less because it's not Colt and there's the kool-aid factor to consider.

ETA:  Of course, original barrels are only getting rarer as time goes on.  But that was only 6 months ago.  I seem to recall seeing other barrels sold around that time in the $250-$275 range, but I haven't been watching barrel prices since then.

Being new to this game and pricing parts recently, I would have to agree. I would say 275 is the tipping point right now for this barrel.

There was one identical listed on the EE for $300 and it didn't move very quick.  Don't know if still there on not.  Would say $300 is top dollar but it would depend on the buyer.  Quick sale would probably be less but they are not the easiest item to find.  Used one broght $185 recently and it sold very quick.  Condition is the key and NOS is about as good as it gets.

Must have been this one?

This auction included the bolt too, but was used.

If someone is going to buy a barrel for $300 then why not just buy a complete upper for a little more?  I would not pay $250 to $300 for a used barrel, they are not rare or hard to come by.

If you are buying this,I would offer $250 shipped.

I agree on used reto barrels being over priced, but Sarco sold all their NOS barrels pretty quick at $265 plus shipping mostly right here in retroland.  Also if you buy an upper for $350-400 you pretty much paid $250-300 for the barrel if you include anything for your time and hassle of shipping out the other parts.    Might get a free set of handguards out of the deal.  Granted a used retro $300 dollar upper is considered a deal today. We are talking NOS SAK barrels here or Colt C MP B in same condition and chances of finding a complete NOS retro upper are pretty remote although possible, but I also think the price will then go up a little.

Thirtycal,  I don't personally mess with gunbroker, I'm talking about the equipment exchange on this forum and I'm with armorer911 offer $250 for the NOS SAK barrel.  I'd rather have the SAK than the Colt anyday.  They usually shoot a lot better, but they don't say Colt.

The last upper I sold was a SAK with FA upper attached for something like 280$ shipped ( on RBR ).
I wont be doing that again if barrels alone are worth that much.

How much would an A1 stock, pistol grip and handguard set be worth? I'm considering buying an M16A1 kit from APEX when I have the funds for the majority of the parts I need for a carbine build. Obviously I won't need the stock set.

Hello Aimless & everybody.

I think this is the correct place to discuss the "find" of a rare AR15.

it's about an auction on an Italian site,

http://it.armiusate.it/catalogo/255/Armi-lunghe/id/46459/Armalite-01-223-Remington.html

describing the sale on the commercial market of AR15 SN#124.

This reply is in reference to my thread here:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=123&t=524684&page=1

thanks to everybody interested.

I believe a friend of mine accidentally stumbled across a colt 601 stock at a gun show. He describes it as a mix of green paint and rust color, with no trap door. From his crappy description, I'm guessing 50% of the green paint remains.

How much would such a stock be worth to the 601 collectors on arfcom? I'm going to try and talk him into selling it so he can get what he really wants/needs and so folks here might have a crack at it.

I can buy A1 stock, grip and handguards for $45 shipped all day in great condition.  However, I've seen complete sets sell on here for $65.

I posted this question on the AR discussion forum and didn't get much of a response. And the response I did get was very negative towards retro parts, with a lot of "junk that old piece of crap and get an A2" kind of BS.

What I have is an original A1-E butt stock with a original never used (black not grey) buffer tube, action spring and a used generic rifle buffer. The stock is in good condition, and from what I can tell has never been re-painted. The buffer tube and spring were still sealed in the packaging.

The guy I bought it all from is a very knowledgeable feller that runs an Army surplus store. He said he picked up a couple dozen or so of these original A1 buffers and springs, unused still in the pack at an auction. So what is this complete stock worth? I don't know a whole lot about A1 parts, especialy originals.

[#23]
Assuming that the stock is in good condition (good butt plate, not many scratches, dents, or scuffs), I'd say $60-$65 with the buffer, buffer tube, and spring included.

I'd say it's in pretty good condition, considering what's it's probably been through. No dents, cracks or scratches. just a few small places where the black has rubbed/flaked off, leaving the brown fiber looking stuff showing. Thanks, that's what I was hoping to hear.

A1 Type D stock; I've seen them as low as $10 and as high as $49.  Points of comparison:

http://www.uscoreplicas.net/M16A1-parts.html (scroll down)
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=213548007
http://www.gunnyssurplus.com/m16a1-buttst161.html

Personally I think $20-$30 is about right; maybe $30 since yours looks pretty nice.  I don't think US Collectors Ordnance sells many of them for $49.

I just want some early retro furniture not a new mortgage

So what is a decent price for Furniture & where the hell can I find it?

prebans are worth more in some states. Find someone who needs it and they might pay more.
Price depends on how it was built

I would say a NOS set is worth 35-40$. Used 15$-$20. THe best bet is to be patient, act like you dont want any and wait till you run across them. It seems when I want something it tends to cost more or not be avaliable.

My bro-in-law has an original Colt SP1, new in the cardboard box and plastic that his dad left him. He want's to sell it but doesn't know what to ask for it. Anyone here have an idea? It's got all the standard items in the box (cleaning kit, sling, 2 mags). It's never been fired and has very little handling marks. Serial # is SP18472x.  Pics can be added if needed.

Thanks in advance!

That is from one of the last couple of years.
I'd pay $1300-1500 for an unfired SP1.
If you go shoot it expect $1000-1100.

Have a chance to pick up an original 601 barrel & upper. Barrel & upper are in very nice shape. Upper is original with "R" sight wheel, square pad port door, slip ring. Barrel is original  cast front sight base, barrel markings are C in a square stamped near the breach, and a M1 stamped in front of the FSB. Carbon steel gas tube, duck bill flash suppressor, No handguards. What would something like this go for?

I assume that was my last 601 acquisition.  I actually had to look up what I paid...I was thinking $1300.  it was actually $1225, including original BCG and charging handle and grenade spring.
I actually felt guilty enough about the price that I sent the seller a 604 barreled upper as a bonus.

I told Lusciousclay in an email that 1-14 barrels seem to bring around $1000 and upper receivers probably between $300-350.  Does that sound about right?

I think your prices are just about right.
I paid $950 for my 601 barrel with original duckbill almost two years ago.
There were others in line right behind me. (I think you might have been one of them)
Most stripped 601 uppers have gone for around $300 the last couple of years.

If it is in excellent condition $1000-$1200 for a 20", and a couple hundred more if 16" carbine.
Add a couple hundred more if the rear extension hasn't ever been removed.

"Good condition" then $950-1050 for a 20", and $1100 for a 16" carbine.

Looks like it is possibly a SP1 parts upper. I believe Colt stopped using the square forged upper before they started using the "C MP CHROME BORE" marked barrels. The receiver is a mid-late 60's vintage and the barrel is at least early 70's or later.

As for a value (assuming no BCG), It would probably go quickly at $350. Tack on another $100+ for a BCG (depending on which type) and quick sale.

Good eye on it being an SP1 receiver, but shouldn't the forging on an Sp1 receiver line up with the lower receiver underneath the port door? This one doesn't. The pivot pin hole appears to be large.
