I finally got my 604 build almost complete. Yes, I know there is a tick mark on the safety, and the buttstock is wrong for now.  Colt upper/CH/BCG, barrel is from one of the kits currently available.Lower is an NDS blem. I parked the barrel myself, and had a gunsmith friend assist in putting the FSB on, and oversee installing the barrel.

Is the buffer tube the same for the D type stock as the A1?  I would be willing to swap this stock in like new condition for a correct version if anyone has an extra floating around. Since I have the 603 upper and a consecutive serial number NDS lower, I want to build a 649 or 653 next. My fiancee just moved in, so it will be a long while before I get that one finished.

I agree, I think it looks great.

I agree. It looks awesome! I'd probably keep that E stock on there if it was me.

Thanks guys! It is a handy place to keep a broken shell extractor and a cleaning rod.

I carried one of these in the AF, and always liked the slick side uppers. I plan on shooting it regularly, and enjoying the heck out of it.

Very Very Nice. Basic, simple and clean.  Maybe try to find a "tic-less" selector.  One without the hash mark.  They turn up often on GB.

First, the rifle looks great.  Not sure what you need to do to finish it, but finish it, buy a case of ammo, and then go shoot the heck out of it.  Enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Your buffer tube will be fine for either the type D or E stocks.  Use whichever you want.
And then tell your fiance you want to finish the other one so that the two of you can go shooting together.  It's all about doing things as a couple!
...Just don't start referring to either one of them as "hers".  You don't want to start down that road.

Wasn't your first park job, was it?  Looks pretty good from what I can see.

Looks great,  my buddy just finished a 604 build (below).  I am sure someone would trade you the correct stock.  Also, as others have said, grab a "no-tic" selector and you will be set.  The park job looks great from here!

My "Khyber pass" parkerizing setup is probably the best 150 bucks I have spent on guns.  I have done at least 15 AK's, not sure how many barrels, and other parts, and the solution still works like the first time I used it.
There is no secret to parkerizing other than making sure the parts are free of grease and oil, and have a good base for the solution to bond to such as blasting with aluminum oxide. I have a tiny Harbor freight compressor and sand blasting gun, and use a garden cart with a tarp draped inside as a blast cabinet. It is very simple and effective, as you can see.  Here is a picture of a VZ58 that I did last year. It isn't the real grey finish, but I like the looks very much.
