As bad as those "sporterized" M1903 abominations.

that is a shame

I made a low offer for it and he turned it down.

I figured I could use it as a guide when I'm reaming the buffer tube hole in 80% lowers, so I'm not scratching up some nice upper.

Was it a fun-show gypsy that claimed it was an "experimental sniper upper" ???

I have an Olympic Arms upper (6mm) that has the carry handle milled off with a rail screwed down in it's place. It's not retro, but that is how they did it back in the day.

Yep, as long as using sights to hit you target isn't important to you.

i've run across two or three like that at gun shows.  i usually get them real cheap.  they become fun little .22 uppers.  put them on a mill and get it flat, then use a scope mount and drill and tap.  cheap little plinker upper.

something like this:

Somebody bought it??? Damn!!!

I've been looking for a cheap upper to build one of these -

I have the stick of 1" aluminum to TIG weld to the top...I just can't talk myself into chopping up a perfectly good upper...

...But I'll happily rescue someone else's f*ckup...

That's also how the high power rifle crowd used to build match rifle uppers "back in the day".  The flat-top upper put an end to all that of course.

i see nothing too wrong wth it except he didnt finish it.  ie it does not have a weaver rail bolted to it.  i can did one out of my parts pin that has a carry handle cut off and a weaver rail bolted on.  remember that at one time that was cutting edge and the only way to have that.
